Women’s football reports – Sunday, September 20: Welsh Cup penalties joy for Bangor City 1876 and NFA, Caernarfon score 17

BUTE ENERGY WELSH CUP FIRST QUALIFYING ROUND

CPD Bangor 1876 1 Llangefni Town 1 (Bangor won 6-5 on penalties)

Emulating their men’s team’s heroics in the Welsh Cup the day before, Bangor City 1876 women also progressed on spot-kicks in the national knockout on Sunday afternoon.
The tie was goalless until the 72nd minute when Hannah Owen set up Menna Evans to put Bangor in front.
However, Milly Lowe equalised on 85 to ensure penalties were required to determine a winner.
Both teams had misses, City’s Catrin Roberts making one vital save, before Cerys Macdonald slotted the decisive kick to earn the Citizens a 6-5 success from the spot.

Caernarfon Town 17 Prestatyn Sports 1

Megan Williams, Catrin Thomas and sub Llinos Hughes all scored four goals apiece as Caernarfon rattled up a huge victory over new side Prestatyn Sports.
Another substitute, Erin Bowness, added a hat-trick, while there was a goal each for Maddison Connor and Keisha Swai.
Hughes bagged a four-minute hat-trick between the 82nd and 86th before adding her fourth just past the 90.
Substitute Milli Evans scored a consolation for Sports.

Denbigh Town 3 NFA 3 (NFA won 4-3 on penalties)

A thrilling cup tie at Central Park ended with visitors NFA edging through on penalties.
Molly Brown handed the Rhyl side an early lead, but Lleucu Williams equalised on 20 minutes and former NFA player Loz Jones made it 2-1 to Town at the break.
Amy Webster levelled early in the second half, Bethany Kell put Denbigh 3-2 up on 78, but Summer Jones restored parity to force a shootout.
After a topsy-tuvy contest from the spot, with misses on either side, NFA ended up victorious.

Hawarden Park 9 Amlwch Town 0

Four goals each from Lexi Weaver and Farrah Aslam helped Hawarden Park deliver a thumping win over Amlwch in this all-Tier 3 tie.
A Llio Williams own goal completed the scoring.

Pwllheli 6 Kinmel Bay 0

Sian Moore scored a 14-minute hat-trick in a game Pwllheli had wrapped up at half time with a 5-0 lead.
Lois Thomas and Magi Hughes made the scoresheet for Pwll before Moore added a treble.
Just one home goal followed in the second half, Stacey Sansome netting on the hour.

Towyn 2 Airbus UK Broughton 3

Great effort from newcomers Towyn, but Airbus edged the honours at Y Morfa.
Scarlett Ash put the hosts in front after just five minutes, but a Rhian Lewis double and Ava Roberts single handed the Wingmakers a 3-1 half time lead.
Baileigh Aaron reduced the deficit on the hour, but that was the end of the scoring.

CPDM Y Felinheli 5 Guilsfield 8

A bizarre cup clash at Cae Seilo saw Tier 3 underdogs Guilsfield emerge triumphant in a 13-goal bonanza.
Back in women’s football after a 66-year gap, Central Wales League side Guils raced into a 4-0 lead inside half-an-hour, Ella Breese and Josephine Lawson netting two apiece.
Katie Midwinter pulled one back for the hosts before half time.
At the start of the second half, Felin looked like turning the tide when Llywela Edwards and Fflur Williams cut the arrears to 3-4, but Evie Foster bagged a fifth for the Powys visitors on 54.
Jordanne Greenough notched a fourth for the home side, then Felinheli had a great chance to level things up, but Catrin Evans missed from the penalty spot.
Breese completed her hat-trick for Guls on 67, Evans atoned for her pen miss by scoring after 70, but then visitors extended their lead to 8-5. Lara Halfpenney struck on 76 and Breese made it a quadruple on 89.

ADRAN PREMIER PHASE ONE

Wrexham 7 Barry Town United 0

Champions Wrexham stormed to a club record 7-0 Adran Premier victory over hapless Barry at The Rock.
It was a third straight league win for the Red Dragons, who remain second on goal difference behind The New Saints, who they entertain in two weeks.
Jenny Sugarman’s side led 2-0 at half time, Natasha Thomas and Ava Suckley on target.
Katie Barker made it three on 64 and the goals really started to flow after the 80-minute mark, the title holders finding the net on four more occasions.
Lili Mai Jones, Maria Francis-Jones, Evie Sadler and the deadly Barker all made additions to a very impressive scoresheet.

NORTH EAST WALES WOMEN’S LEAGUE

Wrexham Foresters Reserves 4 Connah’s Quay Nomads U19s 3

Tania Prior scored a hat-trick in an impressive home victory for the Foresters.
Ella Eynon also netted for the hosts, who led 3-0 inside the first seven minutes.
Nomads made a game of it, Meisi Griffiths, Nicola Szczawinska and Ruby Lovell replying, but the home side pocketed the points.

NORTH EAST WALES WOMEN’S RECREATIONAL LEAGUE

Deeside Dragons 2 Hawarden Park Rec 3

Hawarden Park took a three-goal lead through Kirsty Jones, Katie Penzer and Lucy McManus before Dragons roared back into it with two net-finders of their own, but the away side edged the victory. Beth Rowlands scored both for Dragons, Ellie Kent with two assists,

Halkyn United 1 Aston Park Rangers 7

Sub Stacy Harrison led the charge with a hat-trick for Aston, Ellie Vaughan scoring twice and there were singles from Natalie Bennett and Taylor Amber.
