Revitalised Bangor City came through another tough test to advance to the next stage of the Welsh Cup and make it four straight wins to kick off the 2026-27 season.

Under the interim management of Chris O’Neal, the Citizens have entered the current campaign with a new sense of purpose and determination.

Sunday saw Bangor claim a second cup win of the season over Tier 3 champions Llangefni Town and just like the first encounter, it was mightily close.

Both goalkeepers were magnificent, Cefni’s Katie Spruce producing some phenomenal one-on-one stop and reaction saves, while Catrin Roberts was also outstanding in the home nets.

However, Roberts was fortunate to escape punishment in the first half when appearing to handle a shot outside of her area.

The deadlock remained until the 72nd minute when the home side took the lead.

Holly Owen-Roberts drove forward confidently from defence before finding Hannah Owen.

The ex-Llangefni winger sent a perfectly-weighted through ball to Menna Evans, who beat a defender and fired powerfully into the top corner.

Five minutes from time, the islanders were back level. Bangor were caught by a well-timed ball through the defence and substitute Milly Lowe won a foot-race before keeping her composure to slot into the bottom corner.

Fittingly, such a close-fought tie was going all the way to penalties and Bangor emerged victorious 6-5, Cerys Macdonald putting away the decisive kick.
