REST OF THE WELSH CUP ROUND ONE REPORTS – SEPTEMBER 19

Bangor City 1876 3 Mold Alexandra 3 (Bangor won 5-4 on penalties)

Bangor are on the march in the Welsh Cup again – but their first round tie against fellow Cymru North side Mold was a mightily close-run affair.
In the end, last season’s semi-finalists needed to edge a penalty shootout to advance to round two of Wales’ premier knockout.
City’s temporary player-manager Declan McManus opened the scoring with a beautifully struck free kick on 15 minutes.
Mold had not come along for the ride and hit back with goals from Luca Hogan and Dafydd Griffith to take the lead.
The hosts levelled on 35 minutes when Dion Donohue picked out Tommy Creamer, who fired into the bottom corner.
In first half added time came a double sending off. Mold’s Henry Nash was red-carded for an aerial challenge on Donohue, who also received his marching orders for retaliation.
Bangor changed goalkeepers at half time with Josh Davies replacing John Danby.
On the hour Mold were back in front, a Kieran Owens assist finished off by Sam Duffy.
It took an 86th minute equaliser from McManus, Josh Carey the impressive chance supplier, to force penalies.
Davies produced a vital save from Hogan, leaving Adam Long to put away the decisive penalty.

Brickfield Rangers 2 CPD Y Rhyl 1879 1

Cymru North leaders Brickfield were once more indebted to 11-goal top-scorer Andrew Vale for the double which led them to victory over Rhyl 1879.
The visitors struck first in the 19th minute when captain Reece Fairhurst forced the ball ho,me following a corner.
Rangers equalised on 35 when Vale capitalised on a poor back-pass to find the net.
Gareth Wilson’s men clinched the win with a Vale penalty midway through the second half.

Coedpoeth United 3 St Asaph City 3 (Coedpoeth won 4-3 on pens)

North East Wales League side Coedpoeth lost a 3-0 lead to be taken to penalties, but the Wrexham hosts prevailed on spot-kicks.
Mike Taylor (2) and Iwan Bennett established a three-goal advantage for Coedy within the first 20 minutes. However, replies from James Williams and Jake Walker made sure Saints were back in it at half time.
Williams completed a double on 51 and that was it for scoring in the match itself, but United squeezed through 4-3 on pens.

CPD Gaerwen 3 Dolgellau AA 4

Great battle by Gaerwen against Tier 3 favourites Dolgellau, who emerged victorious by the odd goal in seven.
Keiran Williams gave the Tier 4 hosts from Ynys Môn an 11th minute lead, Tomos Jones and Dion James hit back to nudge Dol in front, but a Jay Finter penalty made it 2-2 come the interval.
Ioan Roberts scored a third for the Ardal North East travellers on 51 before in the 74th minute a double sending off occurred – Jake Jones of Dolgellau and Keiran Williams of the hosts seeing red.
Gethin Evans made it 4-2 to Dol on 79, and although Callum Hughes replied after 88, the higher-tier side scrapped through.

Holyhead Hotspur 3 Caersws 2

Hotspur dashed into a 3-0 lead in this all-Cymru North encounter, but had to withstand a fightback from Caersws before claiming victory.
Jamie Jones netted twice in the opening eight minutes before Corey Jones added a third close to half time.
A Guto Hughes own goal and Tommy Rowlands strike made it 3-2 with 75 on the clock, but the hosts held on for the spoils.

Guilsfield 6 Mynydd Isa 1

Ryan Knott (3), Jake O’Donnell (2) and Callum Bromley sealed an emphatic home win, Nathan Mendoza responding for the Tier 3 underdogs.

Hawarden Rangers 0 Llangefni Town 5

Gwion Parry, Osian Jones (2), Ifan Mansoor and Dion Jones shared the goals in a convincing success for the Tier 3 visitors over fourth-tier hosts.

CPD Llannefydd 3 Conwy Borough 2

Tomos Salisbury, Tom Jones (pen) and Ciran Jones delivered the goals that mattered for Llannefydd, Connor Morris and Cieran Williams (pen) pushing Borough close.

CPD Llanuwchllyn 1 CPD Llanberis 1 (Llanuwchllyn won 4-3 on pens)

Tier 2 Llanuwchllyn needed penalties to see off the determined challenge of fourth-tier battlers Llanberis.
Gwydion Roberts’ 35th minute effort gave the Cymru North hosts a half time lead, but Huw Owen levelled on 87 for the North Wales Coast West Premier visitors to force spot-kicks.
Llanuwchllyn suffered the scare of an early miss in the shootout before prevailing 4-3.

Menai Bridge Tigers 0 Aberystwyth Town 2

Another tremendous showing from a lower league side as Tier 4 Menai Bridge held their Cymru South visitors to 0-0 for an hour before the former Welsh Premier giants eventually won through.
Aaron Williams broke the deadlock from the penalty spot on 62 minutes before Tomos Evans added a second after 81.

Nantlle Vale 1 Penycae 1 (Penycae won 5-4 on pens)

Tier 3 favourites Penycae had to rely on pens to get past the challenge of T4 hopefuls Nantlle Vale at Maes Dulyn.
Ashley Owen’s 34th minute goal handed Vale an interval lead, but Thomas Edwards levelled the tie with 58 played.
The game went to pens and Penycae edged through 5-4.

Penrhyncoch 1 Porthmadog 1 (Porthmadog won 4-3 on pens)

Penalties again – this time at Cae Baker.
Rhys Alun Williams scored first for Port on 55 minutes, but John James made it all-square on the hour.
Porthmadog advanced 4-3 on spot kicks.

CPD Y Glannau 0 Buckley Town 9

Seven second-half goals ensured Buckley registered the biggest win of the round in the north.
Oliver Blayney, Luke Mariette, Caleb Afful, Reagan Nicholas (2), Lewis Hodson and a Connor Littler treble settled the issue.
