WELSH CUP MATCH OF THE DAY: Nine-man Denbigh score twice late to win tie in remarkable turnaround

Nine-man Denbigh produced two late goals to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat in a Welsh Cup classic at Central Park.
Despite having two players sent off and trailing for nearly an hour to Ardal North West underdogs Trearddur Bay, Eddie Maurice-Jones’ heroes somehow turned things around in front of an emotion-charged crowd.
The Cymru North hosts made a strong start but their pressure came to nothing.
Findlay Starkey-Jones swung over a corner which landed on top of the net, drilled a 20-yard effort just wide and saw a long range free kick held at the second attempt by keeper Dan Williams.
Trearddur Bay gradually settled and took a 25th minute lead with their first shot on target, Liam Morris’ left-foot strike taking a big deflection before flying home over keeper Ollie Farebrother.
Soon after things got worse for Town when Sion Jones was shown a straight red card for deliberate handball which prevented the visitors moving in on goal.
From the resultant Morris free kick, Farebrother saved but the ball got away from him and the Denbigh goal only just survived.
Ashley Ainsworth’s shot on the turn was kept out by Farebrother before at the other end Williams was forced into his only stop of the half, getting down low to deny Toby Gallagher-Keenan.

HALF-TIME: Denbigh Town 0 Trearddur Bay 1

The second half was generally all about Denbigh attacking and the Beach Boys aiming to preserve what they had.
In the 55th minute, keeper Williams appeared to foul Alfie Vaughan but no penalty was given.
Soon after a skidding Vaughan strike was thwarted by Williams.
On 75 minutes Denbigh’s chances of recovery took a big blow when defender Max Cooke was red-carded for a late challenge in midfield. Whether the tackle warranted a red is debatable.
Nonetheless, Town would not be denied and in the 79th minute they made it 1-1.
Ben Lockley fed the ball out wide to Tom Kelly, who broke to the byline and Harry Martin finished well.
Trearddur rallied and Callum Parry looked certain to score as he slid in for a left wing cross but the ball went out for a goal kick. A close range header from a corner also missed the target and had the visitors nonplussed why they were not ahead.
The 85th minute brought battling Denbigh the winner.

Bay lost the ball in midfield, Lockley again supplied Kelly, who cut into the box and this time tried a low angled shot that beat Williams and made it 2-1.
The crowd and the home players went absolutely wild.
There was no comeback for the islanders from here and Denbigh held on for the win fairly comfortably.
