North Wales Cricket League Division 2: Not one, but TWO tied matches!

One tied cricket match is as rare as a Rik Waller hit.

To have two tied matches in the same division on the same day is as rare as a vacant seat on Transport for Wales.

Yet this very event happened on Saturday, August 1, in North Wales League Division Two – not one, but TWO ties.

Marchwiel and Wrexham 161-8 v Carmel and District 161-10

Only scores count in the final assessment – the amount of wickets lost are irrelevant.

DIVISION TWO REPORTS – AUGUST 1

Llanrwst 1st XI (8) 156-9 Menai Bridge 2nd XI (8) 156-8 – TIED

Visitors Bridge were denied victory by a last-ball run out at Parc Gwydir.
Llanrwst won the toss and batted, skipper Alwyn Williams (44) and Aron Hughes (35) helping concoct a total of 156-9 off 40 overs, Lewis Foran 2-14, Sean Morris 2-38 and David Owen 2-39 for the visitors.
The islanders ended on 156-8, Andrew Wannop (26 not out) not quite able to lead his team to the win. Robert Parry took 2-18 and Caron Williams 2-30 for the Rwsters: Result: Tie – 8 points each.

Marchwiel and Wrexham 1st XI (8) 161-8 Carmel and District 1st XI (8) 161-10 – TIED

Carmel were able to cling on to their lead at the Division Two summit after salvaging a tie at Marchwiel Hall.
Opener Dafydd Bailey made a commanding 79 as the visitors set 161 all out after electing to bat, Sam Shoemark 4-23, Muhammas Ghufran 3-19 and Ashok Kumar 2-19 for the hosts.
Sam Heard-Edwards (32), plus 29 apiece from Chris Woodcock and George Forgrave took Marchwiel and Wrexham close, but they finished 40 overs on 161-8, Amer Jamil 2-36.

Denbigh 2nd XI (12) 178-8 Brymbo 2nd XI (3) 139-10

Sam Kitching (57 not out) and opener Gerallt Lyall (48) did most to guide Denbigh seconds to a winning 178-8, Gareth Pugh 3-25 and Ross Roberts 2-26 for Brymbo seconds, who were then bowled out for 139, Jason Taylor 39, David Kitching 4-22 and Sam Kitching 2-43.

Dolgellau 1st XI (0) 98-8 Pwllheli 1st XI (15) 102-0

Pwllheli romped to a 10-wicket triumph at The Marian to go level on points with leaders Carmel.
Syed K Aslam picked up 2-18 and Omar Aftab 2-24 as Pwll restricted the hosts, who were asked to bat, to 98-8.
The visitors needed just 12.2 overs to reach 102 without loss, Logan Morgan 66 not out from 35 balls including 12 fours.

Corwen 1st XI (1) 131-10 Llay Welfare 1st XI (14) 133-2

A comfortable eight-wicket success for Llay, who inserted the opposition and bowled them out for 131, Jordan Williams with a defiant 60, Findlay Williams 3-15 and Jack Honey 3-22 for the visitors, who eased to 133-2 off 26.2, Jonny Clayton 50, Mike Wright 38 and skipper Tom Parry 30 not out.

Gwersyllt Park 2nd XI (4) 187-8 St Asaph 2nd XI (11) 201-8

Ankush Upadhyaya (65) and Elliot Goddard (44) formed a crucial second-wicket stand of 103 in St Asaph seconds’ hard fought win at Gwersyllt.
Saints posted 201-8 off 40 overs, Rhys Griffiths 4-29 for the hosts, who were then limited to 187-8, skipper Ben Griffiths 64 not out, Gareth Fox 36, Cameron Davies 2-28 for the away side, who win by 14 runs and 11-4 on points.
