New season, same ironclad resilience. CPD Unedig Nefyn put last weekend’s stoppage-time Welsh Cup exit firmly in the rearview mirror on Saturday, producing a masterclass of defensive steel and offensive flair to dispatch NFA 3-0 at Cae’r Delyn in the Amateur Trophy.

The headline of the day was the return of Nefyn’s famed rearguard, back in the starting lineup after missing last week’s trip to Dolgellau. The impact was immediate.

Captain Llyr Pennant Williams and Iwan Griffith delivered a dominant display in the heart of defense, while Jake Jones built on last week’s Man of the Match performance with another accomplished shift.

Joining them was newcomer Ifan Jones, who fitted seamlessly into the unit to keep the visitors completely at bay.

Despite controlling the tempo, Nefyn had to wait until the closing stages of the first half to break the deadlock. Instead, it was Nefyn who struck next. In the 49th minute, Tomi Jones-Evans showcased his relentless work ethic, pressing the NFA backline into a mistake before sliding a clever pass to Toplis. Showing trademark composure, Toplis lifted a delicate chip over the advancing keeper to open his account for the new campaign.

The highlight of the afternoon arrived eleven minutes from time. Left-back Tomos Huw found Tomi Jones-Evans at the edge of the area. With his back to goal, the lethal striker rolled his defender in one fluid motion before unleashing a unstoppable strike into the top corner.

While the 3-0 scoreline might feel a touch harsh on a hard-working NFA side, the outcome was never in doubt. The Penwaig march into the next round with maximum confidence as attention now shifts to Tuesday night’s league opener against Bethesda Athletic back at Cae’r Delyn.
