Gwynedd League heroes Nefyn United marched on into the last 32 of the national FAW Trophy with a stunning 3-2 extra time victory at Llannefydd of Welsh Alliance Division Two.
It was another giant-killing for the Penwaig, managed by the Jones trio of Alan, Carl and Steve, who had already knocked Welsh Alliance side Penmaenmawr Phoenix out of the Trophy, as well as third and fourth tier Mynydd Llandegai and Llandudno Amateurs respectively from the Welsh Cup.
Next week comes perhaps the hardest test yet as Nefyn welcome Welsh Alliance Division One leaders Denbigh Town to Cae’r Delyn for a fourth round Trophy tie.
However, Denbigh have already been victims of a shock this season, going out of the Welsh Cup at home to tier-four Mynydd Isa Spartans, so the Penwaig have a more than decent chance of a surprise success.
Saturday’s tussle at Llannefydd saw goals from co-managers Carl Jones and Steve Jones, and a decider from Llyr Williams guide the visitors through, Brad Jones and Ciran Jones replying.
Also into the final 32 are Llanrug United, comfortable 5-1 winners at Llanuwchllyn on Saturday.
Joni Sadler, Alan Mark Owen, Gavin Lloyd Jones and Kevin Lloyd (2) shared the goals for the Welsh Alliance Division One visitors, who lifted the Trophy in 2014. Oli Crimp grabbed a consolation for Welsh National League Premier Division hosts Llanuwchllyn.
