New CPD Mynydd Llandegai manager steps down before start of 2026-27 season

CPD Mynydd Llandegai are searching for a new manager following the resignation of Jay Roberts.

Roberts was appointed in March, the plan being for him to shadow departing duo Huw Davies and Phil Thomas for the remainder of the 2025-26 season before taking sole charge for the 2026/27 campaign.

However, Roberts has already called it a day, stating he had not received the support he felt was needed to be a success in the role.
Roberts said: “Unfortunately, it became very clear, very quickly, that progressing with the club would be extremely challenging.

“From the get go, I felt limited confidence in my appointment, particularly from several senior players from the previous season who left without even meeting me.

“Only three or four first-team players stayed on, I mostly inherited the majority of the previous season’s development squad.

“I had a squad of 25-30. For our first pre-season fixture, only a handful of players were available, not enough to field a full team anyway.

“Attracting new signings proved very difficult, as there appeared to be little momentum or activity at the club to draw interest.

“While I recognise that player recruitment was part of my responsibility, I ultimately inherited a very difficult situation with limited foundations to build upon.”

A former manager of Llangoed and District in Tier 5, Roberts says he will now weigh up his ptions before deciding where he will work this season.

In a short statement, CPD Mynydd Llandegai said: “We can confirm that Jay has stepped down from his role as First Team Manager with immediate effect.

“We’d like to wish him all the best in the future and thank him for his efforts.”
