Meliden Football Club are set to return to the North Wales Coast East League this season – here are five signings already made at The Mine.
Attacking dynamo Tom Weir is a great new addition to a Meliden side looking to make a major impact on their return to North Wales football this season.
Aged 27, this skilful and gifted striker had a stint with Denbigh Town’s Junior section before linking up with the academies at Connah’s Quay Nomads and Rhyl.
After senior squad selections for Nomads in the 2019-20 UEFA Europa League against Kilmarnock and Partizan Belgrade, Weir moved to Flint Town United.
His first senior minutes came in March 2020 in the JD Cymru Premier against Nomads.
After 13 senior appearances for the Silkmen, Weir briefly spent time with Conwy Borough in JD Cymru North.
He signed for tier 2 club Gresford Athletic at the start of 2022-23 before a surprise move to tier 5 Bow FC three months later.
After netting 15 goals in 17 first-team appearances for the newly-formed Prestatyn club, Weir put pen to paper for Denbigh at the beginning of 2023-24 – their first season back in the second tier.
Following seven goals in 22 outings, in January 2024 Weir switched to Prestatyn Town before linking up with Colwyn Bay that summer.
He moved to Prestatyn once more on loan for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.
Weir spent the early part of last season at Denbigh Town before a switch to Holywell Town, who finished the campaign getting promoted to the Cymru Premier.
Colossal presence at the back best known for his spell with successful Tier 4 and 5 outfit Bow between 2022-23 and 2024-25.
Made 62 first team appearances in total for the coast-based club, where he won the North Wales Coast East Division One league title and REM Jones Cup double in 2023-24 before going on to be a regular in the Premier the following season.
Meliden chief spokesman Richard Hillier-Evans said: “Over the moon to get Cale back playing after having a year out, He’s is a mountain of a defender and wears his heart on his sleeve, he knows this league well after winning it with Bow and playing nearly every game with them. Also houses a monster shot on him.”
Midfielder whose experience will be a vital asset to the returning Miners.
Well-travelled 31-year-old whose list of clubs include Rhyl Albion, Glan Conwy, Bow, Prestatyn Town and CPD Gronant.
Made a few appearances for the Bow side which won the double in 2023-24, but was chiefly a mainstay of the Development team.
Richard Hillier-Evans: “Getting Brownie is massive on and off the pitch – he’s a big vocal point in the squad and won this league Bow before so he will help us with our goals.”
Experienced defender who has been a highly consistent performer for the likes of Rhyl Dragons and Prestatyn Wanderers in recent seasons.
Richard Hillier-Evans: “Chuffed to get an experienced player like Wayne on board. A player that’s been in this league a few years and a calm and collected defender, something every club needs.”
Another player with plenty of experience in the locker having represented Kinmel Bay Development, Rhyl Dragons, Bow, Bow Development and, last season, Prestatyn Sports Development.
Richard Hillier-Evans: “Class to get Portman on board, he knows the lads and is proven in this league were in and won it with bow before so no brainer when he was available.”
