Gresford Athletic appoint new manager

Cymru North club Gresford Athletic have unveiled Anthony Weaver as their new manager.

Weaver was recently in charge of Tier 4 Rhydymwyn for a second time, having previously led them into the Welsh National League (Wrexham Area) Premier Division in 2019-20.

After that, he managed Conwy Borough between September 2022 and the end of 2023-24 before a stint as a player only at Aston Park Rangers. He took over at Rhydymwyn again in April 2025.

Weaver’s impressive CV also includes head of youth phase and academy coach at Connah’s Quay Nomads, coach at the Liverpool FC International Academy and a UEFA A and Elite Youth licence.

Nomads Academy U15s were crowned FA Wales Academy Northern champions under Weaver and James Duff.

In November last season, Gresford announced sweeping changes which included the departure of long-serving  first-team manager Eddie Maurice-Jones.

Former FC Queens Park and Ruthin Town boss Dave Evans took the helm at Clappers Lane and saw Athletic to Cymru North safety before recently being appointed to the manager’s role at Buckley Town.
