Gary McConnell has been appointed new manager of Tier 4 North East Wales League Division 1 club Rhydymwyn.
McConnell had spells in charge at third-tier clubs Connah’s Quay Town and Lex XI this season and brings plenty of experience to the table, having also been a striker at a high level with the likes of Airbus UK Broughton, Cefn Druids, Prestatyn Town and Buckley Town in the past.
A Uefa B Licence coach, he also carries10 years of academy coaching experience and was once head of youth at Flint Town United.
McConnell’s assistant will be Dave Johnson. The pair worked together at Connah’s Quay Town and Lex, with Johnson a former player-manager with Sealand Leisure and FC Nomads who possesses vast experience in youth coaching. As a player, he represented Connah’s Quay Nomads, Llandudno, Buckley Town and Nantwich Town.
Also on board at Rhyd will be Ellis Burdsall as first team analysis coach.
Rhydymwyn have a mixed history, having won the Cymru Alliance and Welsh Alliance league titles in the 1990s and lifting the FAW Trophy twice, but also disbanding and playing in the lower reaches of the Welsh pyramid in less successful times.
They finished seventh in North East Wales Division 1 this season.
