GOLF: Caring golfers round-up amazing total for charity

The outgoing captain of Llandudno’s Maesdu Golf Club has presented an incredible cheque to a local charity – for a very special reason.

In his 2025/26 reign, Shaun Davies had chosen to support Hope House Tŷ Gobaith children’s hospices, who have bases in Conwy and Oswestry.

Through activities like his Captain’s Day and even a 72-hole game, Shaun was able to raise £11,500 which he chose to donate to the charity during their match-funded campaign, Quality Moments Matter – meaning it was doubled to make an incredible £23,000!

Shaun shared: “My daughter Ava, who is now 21, was born with multiple serious health conditions.

“For most of her life we accessed nursing care and respite through Tŷ Gobaith and Hope House.

“It’s such a valuable service and we knew she was always well looked after.

“There’s no other charity that I’d support.”

Paying tribute to his fellow club members, Shaun continued: “We did free entry on my Captain’s Day and left a collection bucket out. Everyone was very generous and paid at least the regular fee – we hit £5,000 very quickly.

“Everybody at the club has been amazing and we’ve had great times like playing four full rounds in a day and even a team dressed as Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.

“A huge thank you to all members, friends and family who have supported me in raising money for this incredible cause.”

Tŷ Gobaith fundraiser, Sian Golding has been supporting Shaun in his efforts and went along to the clubhouse to officially receive their cheque.

She said: “We are always grateful of amazing community fundraisers like Maesdu Golf Club.

“It’s extra special when it involves people who have been deeply touched by our work, like Shaun.

“By choosing to coincide his donation with our Quality Moments Matter campaign, Shaun was able to double the impact of his fundraising thanks to the matchers pot built up by firms in the local area.

“£23,000 will go a long way to helping local children with a life-threatening condition to live their best lives and make precious memories.

“Thank you, Shaun. You’re a star.”
