Welsh Cup meetings between Flint Town United and Caernarfon Town – who has the upper hand?

Sunday’s Welsh Cup finalists Caernarfon Town and Flint Town United have met five times in the competition’s 149-year history.
Flint have won three ties compared to the Canaries’ two, but the Cymru Premier pair have not been drawn together in Wales’ premier knockout since 1991-92.
The first meeting came in 1948-49 at the third round stage. The first game at The Oval ended 2-2, but Flint convincingly won the replay 6-2. The Silkmen progressed to the last 16 that season before losing out 7-4 at South Liverpool.
It took just one attempt to separate the teams in the 1949-50 competition, Flint taking the honours 4-2. This time the winners exited 2-0 at Wrexham in the quarter-finals.
It was Caernarfon’s day in the 1961-62 third round as they beat Flint 2-1 away. The Cofis were knocked out at the next stage by Pwllheli and District.
Flint edged a narrow 1-0 win over the Canaries in the 1989-90 competition, but were hammered 7-1 at Bangor City in the next round.
The last time Sunday’s combatants locked horns in the Welsh Cup was in 1991-92, Caernarfon winning a second round battle 3-2 in a replay after a 2-2 outcome at Flint.
Caernarfon competed in the Northern Premier League Division One at the time, while Flint were the reigning Cymru Alliance champions.
