Two stunning goals are the highlights of Prestatyn’s victory

Young Loui O’Carroll will never forget his first goal for Prestatyn – and neither will anyone who witnessed it.

The 19-year-old, who joined the Seasiders early in the season, produced a stunning effort shortly after coming on as a substitute which ensured Town rounded off their home league fixtures on a high note.

A crowd of 166 at Bastion Gardens saw a clinical second-half performance from Prestatyn, as they secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Penmaenmawr Phoenix on Wednesday evening.

The first half offered little in terms of clear-cut chances, with both sides focused on settling into the game. Prestatyn showed glimpses of threat down the right flank, where Christophe Aziamale and Casey Faulkner combined well, their energy causing problems for the visitors’ defence. However, Penmaenmawr remained organised and limited the hosts to half-chances.

At the other end, the visitors arguably had the better openings. Adam Reid was called into action on a couple of occasions, producing strong saves to keep the scores level, while other opportunities were either fired wide or narrowly missed the target. A powerful long-range effort also whistled just over, underlining Penmaenmawr’s threat before the break.

The game shifted dramatically after half-time, with Prestatyn emerging with renewed intent.

Less than ten minutes into the second half, Aziamale’s quick footwork in the penalty area earned the hosts a spot-kick. Looking to make it three penalties in three appearances, he stepped up confidently, but his low effort towards the bottom-left corner drifted just wide.

The miss did little to halt Prestatyn’s momentum. Just minutes later, a free-kick was awarded on the edge of the area amid debate over whether the foul occurred inside the box. From the resulting set piece, Jake Walker unleashed a stunning strike into the top-left corner, sparking jubilant celebrations among the home supporters.

The hosts continued to press, and their dominance soon paid off again. Less than ten minutes later, Alex Jones’ header from a corner dropped kindly to Aziamale, who composed himself before setting up Walker to finish from close range and double the lead.

Penmaenmawr responded with a quadruple substitution in an attempt to regain control, and while it brought a degree of stability, Prestatyn remained firmly on top. Callum Hardy saw a long-range effort drift wide, while Sam Henry went close on a couple of occasions without finding the target.

The third goal arrived in spectacular fashion. Just three minutes after coming on, substitute O’Carroll made an immediate impact.

The youngster picked up possession out wide, drove infield past several defenders, and unleashed a brilliant strike from outside the box that soared beyond Cameron Darling and into the net—his first goal in Prestatyn colours.

Despite the deficit, the visitors continued to search for a consolation goal and came agonisingly close. A breakaway left Reid seemingly beaten, but the goalkeeper produced an incredible recovery to get back and block what looked a certain goal- an effort celebrated as passionately as O’Carroll’s strike moments earlier.

The final whistle soon followed, confirming a dominant second-half display from Prestatyn Town in their final home game of the season.

The result also extended Aden Shannon’s impressive unbeaten league run to nine matches since taking charge at Bastion Gardens.
