NORTH EAST WALES LEAGUE: Queen’s Park will meet Greenfield in Horace Wynne final, Gronant hit eight

NORTH EAST WALES LEAGUE – SATURDAY, MARCH 14, 2026
NEWFA HORACE WYNNE CUP SEMI-FINALS
Coedpoeth United 1 (T Williams 51)
FC Queen’s Park 4 (N Williams 21, 24, Molyneux 65, Smart 70)

Queen’s Park remain on course to lift the Horace Wynne Cup for the fourth time in five seasons after reaching the 2025-26 final with a 4-1 victory at Brymbo SSC today.
Winners of the trophy in 2021-22, 2022-23 and 2024-25, the Park maintained their love affair with this league-wide competition at the expense of fellow Division 1 outfit Coedpoeth.
Nicky Williams put the Wrexham side on their way with his 18th and 19th goals of the season, finding the net on 21 and 24 minutes via assists from Corey Smart and Mike Latham.

It was 2-0 at half time, but six minutes into the second period Coedy threw themselves a lifeline when Tomos Williams halved the deficit, Iwan Bennett with the assist.
The visitors regained their two-goal advantage in the 65th minute, Smart with another supply for Sam Molyneux to make it 3-1.
And the tie was all but over when Smart bagged a well-deserved goal of his own – a 13th of the campaign – with Latham producing his second assist of the afternoon.
Acton 1 (Godfrey 37)
Greenfield 1 (Davies 83)
Greenfield won 4-3 on penalties

Division 1 Greenfield needed spot-kicks to finally see off the challenge of unbeaten Division 2 side Acton in a close-fought semi at Spider Park.
The visitors suffered an early blow when midfielder John Newton received a red card with just 22 minutes played.
Acton took advantage of having the extra man on 37 minutes when Jack White teed up Alix Godfrey to make it 1-0.
And the Wrexham side held that lead until the 83rd minute when Ryan Davies equalised, Kieron Day with the assist.
Penalties were required to settle the tie and Greenfield came out on top 4-3.

Harry Massey (Overton Recreational) and Nick Sutherland (CPD Gronant) matched each other’s scoring feats, with each celebrating four-goal hauls as part of huge scorelines for their respective teams. Overton’s Tom Huxley also added two assists alongside his hat-trick.
No matter the competition, FC Queen’s Park keep on rolling and are through to the Horace Wynne Cup Final.
Skippy signed off their domestic campaign with a creditable draw against champions CPD Caerwys. Karl Bacon netted a 16th league goal of the season for Caerwys.
CPD Cei Connah’s late comeback frustrated AFC Deeside and has handed CPD Gronant a golden opportunity to secure a second-place finish in Division Three.
Mynydd Isa’s second string extended their lead at the top of Reserve Division One, while the top two did the business in Reserve Division Two. Broughton’s Evan Davies came off the bench to net his 14th of the season and went top of the scoring charts.
Broughton’s Reserves hold a nine point advantage over FC Queen’s Park, who have four games in hand. An exciting title chase looks set to play out over the coming weeks.
