Monday night women’s football: Great wins for Kinmel Bay and Mochdre Lionesses

NWCFA RECREATIONAL WOMEN’S LEAGUE – MARCH 9, 2026

Eglwysbach Queen Bees 1 (Williams 36)
Kinmel Bay 2 (Mamwell 51, Skelton 57)

Kinmel Bay Ladies Recreational secured a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Eglwysbach Queen Bees in a competitive match played over two 30-minute halves at Coleg Llandrillo on Monday night.

The first half was a closely contested battle, with both sides showing determination from the outset. Kinmel Bay started strongly and applied early pressure on the Queen Bees defence, but the home side stood firm.

Goalkeeper Karen Martin was in excellent form, producing several impressive saves to keep Bay at bay.

Queen Bees gradually grew into the game, creating opportunities through some tidy passing down the flanks. However, Kinmel Bay’s defence remained organised and resilient, making a series of crucial clearances to ensure the teams went into the break level.

The deadlock was finally broken early in the second half. A well-delivered corner from the Queen Bees caused a scramble in the box, and Dioned Williams reacted quickest to poke the ball home and give the hosts the lead.

Kinmel Bay responded well and showed the benefits of their work on the training ground. Steph Farley played a precise ball out from the back towards the left wing where Steph Hughes cleverly dummied the pass, allowing Amy Mamwell to take over.

Mamwell surged down the flank and unleashed a superb strike into the bottom corner to level the match in the 51st minute.

With just nine minutes remaining, both teams raised the tempo in search of a winner. It was Kinmel Bay who eventually found the decisive moment. Skipper Caitlin Blackwell laid the ball neatly into the path of Becca Skelton, who drilled a composed finish into the net to secure the victory.

Mochdre Lionesses 1 (Lopez 11)

Match-winner Antonia Lopez

A single goal from Antonia Lopez was enough to earn the Lionesses a sixth win in seven matches on Monday evening.

Mochdre had won the first encounter between the sides 1-0 in January and repeated the feat in the away test at Ysgol Aberconwy.

The result strengthened the Lionesses’ grip on second place ahead of Blues in an impressive third.
