Youth bloomed on St David’s Day as Holyhead Hotspur Development maintained their winning run with a 5-1 success at Llanfairpwll Development on Sunday.
Lucas Garmey (2), Kane Astles (penalty), Reece Francis and sub Noel Owen shared the away goals, Jack Evans replying for the hosts.
Here’s Hotspur manager Scott Hakesley’s rundown on the game,,,,,
“Today we traveled to Llanfair in league action where in the first half faced a strong headwind. We was awarded a penalty on the 25th minute which Kane Astles slotted home to put us 1-0 up.
“Several chances followed but to no success. Thanks to the Llanfair goalkeeper Cai Roberts, it looked like we were going into half time with everything to do.
“However Lucas Garmey had other ideas, hitting a brace in 5 minutes to extend our lead to 3-0 at the break.
“With us having a strong bench today changes were made to settle things down. With today’s MOTM young Reece Thomas making his first senior start, he grabbed himself the goal of the game and controlled the midfield at only 16 years old. I think this echoes the faith and confidence we have in progression through our junior sections at the club as both Lucas and Reece have slotted in nicely creating competition in the squad. Onto the last 30 mins we felt in control playing some nice football with Noel Owen grabbing the 5th as we went home with all 3 points.
“Next up we focus on the cup 13.30 kick off at the New Stadium where we welcome in-form Pwllheli. Thanks to Llanfair for hosting us and best of luck in your remaining games.”
