NEWFA Women’s Development League: Six-goal joy for Cei Connah and Coedpoeth United!

NEWFA Women’s Recreational Cup – February 10
CPD Cei Connah 6 (Harrison 4, C Jones, L Hughes)
Mynydd Isa 0
League champions Cei Connah continued the winning habit in their first-ever cup tie on Tuesday.
Conditions were cold and the Flint 3G pitch felt heavy due to the constant rain throughout the night. That didn’t stop the rivalry heating up on the pitch though.
Both teams started strongly with the goalkeepers being tested. Chloe Jones’ shot was rebounded away by an Isa defender before winger Leanne Hughes gambled a strike which gave Cei an early 1-0 lead.
The game continued to be a tough physical encounter with both sets of defenders being tested throughout the half. Cei’s midfield proved that their strong link up play was paying off when Hughes assisted Stacy Harrison to make it 2-0 before half time.
The weather did not stop making the conditions harsh but Cei continued to turn up the heat. Harrison laid off the ball outside of the box before Chloe Jones rocketed into the net to give Cei a 3-0 lead.
With Cei Connah’s defence rock solid, striker Harrison scored another 3 goals within 9 minutes to truly put the game to bed, with two assists coming from Amber Taylor and the last from keeper Amy Clark, who had spotted Harrison on the run and kicked a fantastic ball over every player to give the striker a chance to finish.
Harrison is now on 28 goals from eight games in all competitions this season.
