Caernarfon Town are one win away from reaching their first-ever Welsh Cup final.

And after seeing off the challenge of fellow Cymru Premier outfit Colwyn Bay in Saturday’s quarter-final at Go Goodwins Stadium, the Cofis are now surely favourites to go all the way and lift the cup.

Town joined CPD Dinas Bangor City 1876, Flint Town United and CPD Y Rhyl 1879 in the last four at the weekend.

Semi-finalists in 1957-58, 1982-83, 1987-88 and 2016-17, Richard Davies’ side will be aiming to make it fifth time lucky and qualify for the 2025-26 final.

Richard Davies celebrates his tean’s success

Having lost twice to Colwyn Bay in the league this season, Saturday’s live televised tie was far from a sure thing in the Canaries’ favour.

The Seagulls threatened first when Jamie Cumming’s header from a free kick was cleared from close to the Town goal-line.

At the other end, Sion Bradley made a superb run for the hosts, but his final effort missed by inches.

Bradley looked very unfortunate not to win a penalty when Sol Forde appeared to shove him over by the left byline.

Ethan Roberts drilled across the face of goal for the visitors when a pass inside to Jordan Davies looked the better option.

Caernarfon then had a second penalty appeal turned down when Adam Davies appeared to be tumbled over by George Hughes in the box.

Davies lashed wide for Bay from a Louis Robles cross before the deadlock was broken on 38 minutes.

Paulo Mendes slipped a lovely pass into the path of the outstanding Morgan Owen, whose low centre was finished off by Iwan Lewis.

Half-time: 1-0

Caernarfon made the perfect start to the second half when doubling their lead just a minute following the restart.

Owen delivered from the right, Davies brought the ball down skilfully and Bradley leathered home a left-footed cracker.

Bay were up against it and needed a quick reply. It came on 58 minutes when a shot on the turn by Robles found the net.

The visitors now had their tails up, Davies seeing his shot kept out by Connor Roberts before Robles hammered over after breaking forward from the right.

The next goal would be absolutely crucial and it went to Town after 81 minutes.

Daniel Gosset again showcased his quality from free kicks by bending in a beauty from about 22 yards to make it 3-1.

Zack Clarke makes it 4-1

Aaron Williams headed onto the bar for Bay, but the Cofis had the last word four minutes over the 90 when returning sub Zack Clarke, in his first appearance in a Caernarfon shirt for five months, had his first attempt saved by Alex Brown, but netted the follow up to seal the tie.
