LOCK STOCK ARDAL NORTH WEST – JANUARY 23-24

Penmaenmawr Phoenix 1 Porthmadog 4
Report: Mr Treflyn Jones

Five unbeaten in the league for Porthmadog who have taken 13 points from a possible last 15 and reduced the gap on leaders Bangor City 1876 to just three.

Chris Jones’ side’s latest success saw them triumph at a cold and breezy Cae Sling courtesy of four well-taken goals.

The first chance fell to the visitors when Pen goalkeeper Cameron Darling did well to smother a shot by Rhys Alun on his near post after only two minutes before the home side themselves created three openings of note.

Firstly, a far post header went wide of the upright before Pen’s Dan Evans forced Port keeper Josh Cooke into a fine one-handed save low down.

Then, it was Daniel McIlvogues turn as he hit a first time volley wide of the target. Porthmadog had been warned, but no further opportunities were to fall the hosts’ way during the first period.

On 23 minutes, Port striker Rhys Alun went desperately close when, with only Darling to beat, his close range effort came off the keeper’s body and cannoned off the top of the crossbar to safety. Osian Evans was also unlucky to see a fine volley clattering off the inside of the post.

Finally, on 39 minutes, the visitors got their noses in front when an inswinging corner kick by Caio Evans was volleyed home by midfielder Sam Reynolds.

Two minutes later, Port doubled their account when a Pen defender was adjudged to have controlled the ball with his elbow in the penalty area. Up stepped young Cofi striker Osian Evans to send Darling the wrong way.

Half-time: 0-2

The second half was only three minutes old when a deep cross by Jack Rimmer was met with a fine header by Osian Evans which flew past Darling to give Port a three-goal cushion.

After this, the home team through caution to the wind and produced several promising moves but Lady Luck did not smile on them, especially when Cooke made a terrific save from a point blank shot.

Then, just to rub salt into the hosts` wounds, a right wing cross by Osian Evans was thundered home with a wonderful first time volley by Rhys Alun.

Phoenix did gain a consolation goal when new signing Toby Jones’ accurate pass put sub Leon Atkins free to lob over the onrushing keeper.

Bethesda Athletic 2 CPD Pwllheli 1

Sion Bullock’s 93rd minute winner clinched the three points that moved Bethesda into sixth spot and stretched their unbeaten run in the league at Parc Meurig to seven matches.

A goalless first half ended on a bad note for Pwllheli when they had Sion Jones red-carded.

Nonetheless, on 63 minutes the visitors took the lead when Cian Pritchard bagged his sixth goal in three games for Pwll and his 25th overall for the season.

Pesda had their own goal machine in captain Osian Hughes, and it was the league’s top scorer who levelled on 73 minutes with his 17th Ardal North West strike of the campaign, Kyle Hartleb with the assist.

Hughes then set up Bullock for the decider and Pwll’s misery was completed when they had Jack Jones red-carded a minute later.

Llangefni Town 2 Llay Welfare 2

Goal celebration time for Llangefni’s Ashley Ainsworth

Llangefni lost a two-goal lead as Llay battled back for a point at Cae Bob Parry.

Jamie Thomas delivered a first-minute opener for Cefni and new signing Ashley Ainsworth doubled the home tally after 37 with an absolute stunner from long range.

The Welly are a tough side to beat and began their comeback on 65 when Jonathan Collo netted for a seventh successive game with his 16th goal of 2025-26.

And sub Lewis Fearns made it all-square in the 81st minute, Joshua Phillips with his second assist.

CPD Llannefydd 2 Prestatyn Town 2

Three very late goals made for a dramatic end in this drawn encounter at Llannefydd.

The home team took a 65th minute lead through Mathew Jones and 88 were on the clock before the next goal was scored.

Loan signing from CPD Y Rhyl 1879, defender Leo Latter, struck on his debut after coming on as a sub and Town looked to have grabbed all three points when James Jones made it 2-1 a minute later.

But with 92 gone, Ciran Jones equalised from a Tom Jones assist – his second of the day.

Llanrwst United 0 Mynydd Isa 3

Three second-half goals sealed a cracking away win for Isa, skipper Sam Wainwright breaking the deadlock on 58 minutes before James Beck and sub Harry Lambert found the net after 70 and 75 respectively.

NFA 2 CPD Y Felinheli 1

Impressive NFA lifted themselves into third place after making it eight league matches undefeated.

Aled Hughes’ 43rd minute goal handed Felinheli an interval lead, but Harry Lockley restored parity after 53 before Lewis Evans plundered the winner on 89

Connah’s Quay Town 1 CPD Dinas Bangor City 1876 3 (played Friday)

Captain Iolo Hughes led by example as his first two goals of the season inspired Bangor City 1876 to make it 30 games without loss in 2025-26.

Friday’s win at Deeside Stadium was 1876’s seventh in a row in Ardal North West.

City expected a tough test at Town and so it proved with the visitors holding just a 2-1 advantage at half time.

Defender Hughes struck first for Michael Johnston’s side in the ninth-minute from a Cai Owen assist.

However, the hosts pulled level on the half-hour through Lewis James.

Five minutes later, goal number 26 of the season for Corrig McGonigle ensured the blues were ahead at the interval, Cai Powell Roberts with the assist.

Five minutes into the second half Hughes, who had not scored previously before Friday since netting in a 3-2 defeat at Penrhyncoch last October, made it 3-1 from a Josh Carey supply.
