NORTH WALES COAST EAST LEAGUE – REPORTS JANUARY 10

COOKSON CUP QUARTER-FINAL

Conwy Borough Swifts 5 CPD Y Glannau 2 (AET)

Debutant Cieran Williams struck a superb extra time hat-trick which sent Conwy into the semi-finals of the Cookson Cup.
Williams, 19, only signed for Boro Swifts in the week, but made the most dramatic of impacts when his new team needed him most.
In a remarkable tie, Conwy trailed 2-0 until the 86th minute before two late goals forced an added half-hour in which the hosts prevailed in magnificent fashion.
After a goalless first half at Y Morfa Stadium, Dan Price edged Y Glannau in front in the 52nd minute.
The visitors had defender Tawse Cox red-carded on 57, but undeterred the 10-men scored their second after 84 through Ste Kirk.
Conwy were unfortunate to be two-down, the scoreline owing much to the heroics of Glannau keeper Bradley Wright.
Jake Carey pulled a goal back for the home side on 86, then three minutes into added time, James Lansdowne converted a penalty to make it 2-2.
Perhaps this knocked some of the stuffing out of Y Glannau, as early in the first period of extra time Williams put Conwy 3-2 up.
Williams then struck twice on 109 and 114 to complete a debut he will never forget,

Llandudno Amateurs 4 Rhos United 2

Veteran Danny Hughes scored twice in added time to complete a hat-trick and seal a dramatic win for the Amateurs.
The hosts dominated possession throughout the first half but it was Rhos against the run of play who found themselves 1-0 up at the break after striker Adam Williams scored from distance.
The second half started with Amateurs still commanding, but Rhos were resilient and the hosts’ quality was not coming alight in the final third.
However, on 59 minutes Amateurs won a penalty after Lee Thomas was brought down in the box and up stepped Joe Jones who made no mistake.
Three minutes later, Amateurs got themselves in front after great work by Joe Jones found Danny Hughes in the area. Hughes’ curled shot into the top corner gave the Rhos keeper no chance.
Amateurs continued to press to kill the game off but Rhos enjoyed a good 10-minute spell and on 79 Lewis Sealey sent a cross-come-shot into the net to make it all-square.
From here, the hosts displayed their winning mentality, Hughes adding two more goals from Joe Jones assists beyond the 90 to clinch the points.
