After three seasons at Tier 3 Llanuwchllyn, midfielder Tom Roberts has returned to Ruthin Town in the January window.
Roberts is the first signing made by new Ruthin manager Colin Caton, who targeted the player as a major priority.
Caton said: “Tom was our number one target, and we can’t wait to work with him. He’s a very good athlete, one of the best players in the local area, and I believe he has the ability to go higher. He’ll add real strength and quality to our squad.”
Roberts, 22, said: “The facilities at the club are now up there with the best, if not the best, in North Wales, along with an experienced coaching team. It was a tough offer to turn down. I’m also really happy to be back at my local club, where I grew up.
“I’m looking to make that step up to a higher level and push myself as much as I can to help Ruthin get back up the table.”

Roberts’ association with senior football at Ruthin dates back to 2019-20, a season where he also featured for the Bala Town Development team. He made his first team debut for Ruthin away to Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant in November 2019.
He mainly played for Ruthin Town Reserves, making 39 appearances, while also featuring as a sub on nine occasions for the firsts before joining Llanuwchllyn at the start of 2023-24.
Roberts became a vital regular for Llan, making 79 appearances and scoring five goals in his time with the club, also featuring in two Tier 3 promotion play-off finals.

ZEBB EDWARDS (PRESTATYN TOWN TO HOLYWELL TOWN)

The versatile Edwards has returned to Holywell Town for a third spell.
The 26-year-old, mainly a defender, had a stint on loan with the Wellmen in 2018-19 before rejoining Johnny Haseldin’s side at the start of 2021-22, spending two-and-a-half seasons with the club.
Edwards returned to Prestatyn Town at the beginning of 2024-25 and has been a Seasider until now.
He is the youngest of four talented footballing brothers from Prestatyn – the other being twins Zyaac and Noah, plus the eldest Kai, a former Wrexham and TNS defender.
Kai and Noah are currently with Cymru Premier high-flyers Connah’s Quay Nomads.
Zebb was a hot prospect from the very start, emerging through the Airbus FC Academy before being promoted to the first team squad with a pro contract in June 2016, aged 17.
In 2015/16, he made two substitute appearances for Airbus in the Welsh Premier and the following season featured in 10 top flight matches for the Wingmakers.
Summer 2017 Zebb joined Noah and Zyaac at Prestatyn Town, but a difficult 2017-18 season saw the Seasiders finish bottom of the Welsh Premier and relegated.
Zebb’s first team opportunities were limited over the campaign.
In summer 2018, Zebb moved to Llandudno, but was loaned out to Cymru Alliance club Holywell Town early that season.
Zebb performed well at Halkyn Road, playing mainly in defence and making 16 first team appearances, scoring twice.
He returned to Llandudno in January 2019 and played in a couple of WPL games for the club before the end of the season.
In 2019-20, Zebb rejoined a revamped Prestatyn Town with Neil Gibson back at the helm. Town won the Cymru North title in a canter and Zebb was a regular in the side.
Unfortunately, Prestatyn were refused promotion to the Cymru Premier on a licensing issue. Gibson later departed and Zebb decided, like almost all of the title-winning squad, to move on.
Zebb re-signed for Cymru North Holywell Town, but sadly all football below the Cymru Premier in the 2020-21 season was cancelled due to coronavirus.
He went on to become a great success in a Holywell shirt, making 65 appearances between 2021-22 and 2023-24, notching 23 goals, also winning the NEWFA Challenge Cup and finishing Cymru North runners-up with the Wellmen.
Somewhat surprisingly, Zebb joined Meliden in January 2024 and made 11 first team appearances before the end of 2024-25.
After re-signing for Prestatyn, he made 51 appearances for the club, scoring nine times, before deciding Cymru North Holywell is the place for him in 2026.

RYAN ASTLES (THE NEW SAINTS TO COLWYN BAY)

Astles is among the finest defenders to feature in the Cymru Premier League.
The 6’4” centre-back began his career at Tranmere Rovers before moving on to have spells with Chester City, Wigan Athletic, Buckley, Rhyl and Southport from whom he joined The New Saints in 2020/21.
Having made his debut in the UEFA Europa League, Astles established himself as a crucial player at Park Hall, helping guide TNS to several trophies and their historic run in the UEFA Conference League.
Astles has made 171 Cymru Premier appearances between stints at TNS and the former Rhyl FC and played in more than 100 matches for Chester.
Upon joining Colwyn Bay, Astles said: “I’m really looking forward to joining Colwyn Bay.
“The club has great potential to push on and challenge at the top end of the table, especially being backed by a great set of supporters.
“I can’t wait to get started and hopefully play my part in bringing success to the team.”

DAN ATKINS (COLWYN BAY TO CPD Y RHYL 1879 – LOAN)

Award-winning striker, aged 23, delivers a real boost to a Rhyl 1879 squad looking to push on for Cymru North glory in 2026.
Joined Ardal North West side Porthmadog on loan from Colwyn Bay this season but had not featured since November.
Last season, Atkins scored 16 goals in 24 matches for a Colwyn Bay side crowned Cymru North champions, including the title-winning clincher at Penrhyncoch.
He joined Bay the previous season, when they were in the Cymru Premier, unfortunately losing their top-flight status at the end of the campaign.
In 2022-23, Atkins was named Cymru North Young Player of the Season after netting 22 goals in 28 appearances for Prestatyn Town under Chris Jones, now Porthmadog boss.
Atkins, who can play on the wings or as a striker, also had past experience with English North West club AFC Knowsley, before moving into Welsh football.
His success in front of goal at Cymru North level augurs well for his prospects at Rhyl.

TOM DYER (LLANUWCHLLYN TO RUTHIN TOWN)

Quality defender and set-piece specialist returns to former club.
Dyer, 30, had spent the last 12 months at Ardal North West leaders Llanuwchllyn, featuring in 19 games and scoring on his final appearance.
Prior to that, Dyer began the 2024-25 season at Flint Mountain, playing in nine matches for the Cymru North newcomers.
Although he served Denbigh Town early in his senior days, Dyer has spent the majority of his career with Ruthin, where there is a strong family connection.
Speaking on his return to Ruthin, Tom said: “I’m looking forward to getting the club back to where it should be – in the top half of the table. The new facilities are second to none, which was a huge attraction for me, but mainly, being a Ruthin lad, it’s great to be back playing for the town, and I can’t wait to get started.”
Manager Colin Caton added: “It’s great to have Tom Dyer join us. He’ll give us strength and determination in both boxes, along with leadership on and off the pitch. It’s important to get the best local lads playing for Ruthin, and Tom is certainly one of them.”
