ARDAL NORTHERN REPORTS – SATURDAY, JANUARY 3

LOCK STOCK ARDAL NORTH WEST

Porthmadog 4 Connah’s Quay Town 0

Report: Mr Treflyn Jones

Porthmadog remain hot on the heels of North West leaders Bangor City 1876 after a comfortable four-goal victory over Connah’s Quay Town at Y Traeth.

Port were fast out of the blocks and Town’s keeper Elliot Jones was forced into a diving save to his left after barely five minutes to thwart a downward header by Sam Reynolds from a Liam Morris cross.

The hosts went closer still after a strong run and cross by Osian Evans, but Cai Jones’ point blank shot was again kept out by the busy Quay custodian.

Finally, after 20 minutes, Port opened the scoring. A lovely move started in their own half and involving five players saw the ball reach Rhys Alun inside the box and his swerve and pass found Cai Jones who sidefooted past Jones.

On 26 minutes, Chris Jones’ side doubled their advantage when Rhys Alun was fed by a back-heel via Cai Jones and the striker squeezed the ball home from a tight angle.

Port continued to attack at every opportunity and made it 3-0 just before the interval courtesy of a glorious 25 yard thunderbolt into the top corner by Reynolds.

During the second half, Port continued to attack with purpose and patience but were perhaps a little wasteful in front of goal at times.

Osian Evans was replaced by Jonny Bravo who put his shot wide with the goal at his mercy at the end of a strong run.

Rhys Alun was unlucky to see his seemingly well-placed shot bounce off the foot of the post with Jones well beaten. Then, Bravo suffered another disappointment as he beat the defence only to screw his shot wide from a promising position.

Finally, that man Bravo put the icing on the cake, when, following a couple of step-overs, he guided the ball into the far corner of the net to give Port a thoroughly deserved 4-0 margin.

Bethesda Athletic 3 Llangefni Town 3

Noa Hughes’ penalty six minutes into added time rescued a point for Bethesda in a six-goal thriller against Llangefni.
Pesda looked to have the game under control when they led 2-0 at half time, Joe Todd netting on 15 and 40 minutes, Tomos Hughes and Arden Gisbourne with the assists.
Up until the 74th minute, the scoreline remained the same, but then suddenly Cefni produced a remarkable turnaround.
Ifan Mansoor halved the deficit, then on 80 Sion Jones made it 2-2, both assists provided by Aled Williams.
Then on 89, Town looked to have clinched it when sub Mansoor made it six goals in his last four games with a fine finish via a third Williams assist.
However, there was one last twist in the 96th minute when Athletic earned a spot-kick which Hughes dispatched to ensure it ended honours even.

Penmaenmawr Phoenix 0 Llanrwst United 4

Four second half goals banked a first win in six matches for ruthless Llanrwst,
At half time the scoresheet was blank, but four minutes after the restart, Sam Thomas set up goal machine Callum Parry for the opener.
On 69 minutes the same combination delivered a second for the visitors, Parry netting his 18th goal of the season and seventh double.
Things got worse for Phoenix on 75 when James Hobson was shown a second yellow card.
The Conwy Valley visitors took full advantage with sub Jonathan Richards and captain Leon Doran adding further goals in the late stages.

St Asaph City 1 Llay Welfare 4

Llay edged up to third and stretched their unbeaten league run to nine matches – seven wins – with an emphatic success at bottom side Saints.
Joshua Phillips put the Welly in front from a 19th minute spot-kick, then things got worse for Asaph when keeper Jacob Roberts was red-carded after 37.
With new manager Ryan Turner in charge, 10-man Saints fought hard in the second half and got themselves level on 54 minutes through Ben Hesketh.
However, two goals at around the midway stage of the half via Charlie Cottis and the ever-consistent Jon Collo – his 14th of the season – saw the Wrexham area outfit 3-1 to the good.
Sub Archie Jones put away a fourth for the travelling side before the end.

Prestatyn Town 0 CPD Dinas Bangor City 1876 2

This match was reported on in detail by Grassroots North Wales earlier on Saturday.
Second half goals from Dylan Summers-Jones and Jamie Reed (penalty) ensured Bangor stay top and extended their season-long unbeaten run to 26 games.
