Happy birthday to Wrexham’s bonnie baller Barker!

Happy birthday Katie Barker – a sensational striker who could hardly have wished for a better start to life as a Wrexham AFC Women player this season.
Born on December 23, 2000, Katie is 25 today.
Having arrived at the North Wales club at the start of the present campaign, Katie is current top scorer in the Adran Premier League on 11 goals.
In 14 matches across all competitions, she has netted 14 times, her superb stats including finding the net in eight successive games.
Barker’s brilliance has helped Jenny Sugarman’s side claim top spot in the Adran Premier, as well as qualify for the Adran Trophy semi-finals and Bute Energy Welsh Cup last eight.
That familiar sight of Barker racing clear of opposition defenders and applying a deadly finish has become something of a trademark for Wrexham’s very own version of Alan Shearer.

Katie began her career at Sunderland, where she played between 2017-18 and 2019-20.
Next came a fairytale move to Newcastle, where the forward played a huge part in some unforgettable successes
Her goals helped The Magpies land the FA Women’s National League Division One North title in 2022-23 before back-to-back promotions were sealed the following season when the Premier Division North championship was secured.
This earned the black and whites elevation to Women’s Super League 2, a far cry from the early day initial struggles when Katie joined the club.
Katie is a confirmed Newcastle United legend.

She is Newcastle women’s record goalscorer, with 67 goals, and her strike against Alnwick Town in May 2022 made her the first woman to score at St James’ Park.
Wearing the famous No9 shirt, Katie celebrated her goal in a similar style to hero Shearer.
She turned full-time professional in June 2023, and left Newcastle with 120 appearances to her name, the second-most in the club’s history thus far.
A new adventure at Wrexham in 2025-26 is going tremendously well for this speedy attacker.
Who knows what the Red Dragons will go on to achieve this season, with their Newcastle-Upon-Tyne star leading the attack.
