Injection of youth will breathe fresh life into Meliden FC

Exciting news for Meliden FC!

The club has announced a brand-new partnership with Bodelwyddan Dragons, which will see the junior club transition into Meliden FC Juniors from the start of the 2026/27 season.

For the remainder of the current season, Bodelwyddan Dragons will continue to play under their existing constitution, but as part of the new partnership they will be playing their home games at The Mine and beginning to settle into their new home ahead of the full transition.

As part of this partnership, Bodelwyddan Dragons will be bringing over an incredibly promising group of teams: U8s, U9s, U11s, U12s, and U14s.

A Meliden FC statement said: “This is a huge step forward for Meliden FC and marks an exciting chapter in the club’s growth.

“Our priority is clear – to grow our junior section and provide young players with the best possible environment to develop. With a fantastic pitch facility and a clear, supportive pathway through to the men’s team, we’re committed to shaping the footballing careers of our next generation.

“We can’t wait to welcome these teams, players, coaches, and families into the Meliden FC family. The future is bright — and it starts now.”

Meliden announced recently it is returning to senior football next season after a short break.

The club resigned from the North Wales Coast East League back in September due to a shortage of players and the departure of management.

However, the Miners insisted it would be a temporary withdrawal to allow a period of rebuild.

Meliden have appointed a new management team for the 2026-27 season.

Richard Hillier-Evans, Scott Stewart and James Sweetman will run the Miners in their comeback campaign.
