Louisha Doran looks to future after departure from Wrexham

Defender Louisha Doran is looking to the future after departing Wrexham AFC Women by mutual consent.

The 28-year-old from Glan Conwy’s contract expired in the summer, but she remained with the Adran Premier club whilst continuing her recovery from injury.

She joined Wrexham in 2023 following promotion to the Genero Adran Premier and made an immediate impact at the back.

The central defender clocked up 12 appearances in total, before sustaining a long-term knee injury in January 2024 which meant she missed the remainder of the season, and the subsequent 2024/25 campaign.

Louisha will now depart to continue her rehab from injury.

A former Wales Under-17 international, throughout her career she has mainly operated in defence or midfield, but can adapt to any position.

Before signing for Wrexham, her previous clubs were Llandudno Junction Bullets, Colwyn Bay, Mochdre, Kinmel Bay, Tranmere Rovers, Everton, Llandudno, who she represented in the Welsh Premier League, Connah’s Quay Nomads and Chester.

Louisha’s opportunity at Everton as a teenager came about because of her progress with Kinmel Bay and Wales. Unfortunately, injuries held up her development at the Merseyside club.

In the 2017-18 season, she really made her mark with Llandudno. October 2017 saw her win the WPWL Player of the Month award after scoring eight goals in three league matches.

Louisha later had a spell at Connah’s Quay Nomads in their debut 2019-20 season before arriving at Chester, then returned to Llandudno in 2022-23.

In 2023-24 she joined a Wrexham AFC Women team embarking on its first adventure in the Tier 1 Adran Premier and was outstanding over the first dozen games, including a magnificent debut in the 3-3 opener against Swansea City, before suffering knee damage.

An experienced coach, she has been part of the Glan Conwy FC set up, North Wales Girls Regionals and Sports4All coaching in primary schools Conwy/Denbighshire.

One of North Wales football’s truly outstanding women players, it is hoped there are still some more exciting adventures to come.
