BUTE ENERGY WELSH CUP: Llanystumdwy upset the odds, Llandudno edge through, Foresters on fire, heavy losses for Bangor and NFA

BUTE ENERGY WOMEN’S WELSH CUP FIRST ROUND – NOVEMBER 23, 2025
CPDM Llanystumdwy 2 (M Roberts 11, 35)
CPD Pwllheli 1 (H Rees-Jones 40)
Llanystumdwy are through to the Welsh Cup last 16 for the first time in their short history.
Sion Parry’s side progressed with a famous win over North Wales Tier 3 champions Pwllheli at Parc Dwyfor,
The home side started brightly, and similar to last week’s league game against Kinmel Bay, Kate Davies beat a defender and found herself through on goal in the opening few minutes, once again the keeper, on this occasion Sara Williams, coming out on top and making the save.
Ten minutes in and Llan made the breakthrough. A throw in from Annest Roberts was glanced on by a defender and volleyed home brilliantly by Manon Roberts.
The hosts found joy from set pieces and throw-ins but weren’t able to add to their lead. The visitors were now growing into the game and looked dangerous with Jini Hughes and Sian Moore on the wings, the former forcing Sara Lacey into a great save down low.
Thirty-five minutes in and Llan got their second. Anna Pugh’s ball forward was chased down by Manon Roberts, and her first time shot found the bottom left corner.
Only 5 minutes later and Pwllheli were back in the game, a couple of throw ins down their left forced a corner which was well taken by Jini Hughes and headed home by Hayley Rees-Jones.
Half time; Llanystumdwy 2-1 Pwllheli
There were no goals in the second half but plenty of drama.
Pwll began promisingly, and a couple of crosses flashed across the goal were unable to be turned in. Then just after the hour mark, substitute Nia Jones controlled and turned excellently on the edge of the box, before firing a shot towards goal which was blocked by the arm of an outstretching Llan defender – penalty to Pwllheli.
Jini Hughes stepped up and hit the post. As the ball bounced clear Tash Matthews was the first defender to react, and after she cleared the ball she was met by a late lunge from the Pwllheli penalty taker. Jini Hughes was sent off the challenge and Matthews was forced off with a potential serious injury.
A 15 minute delay due to this injury meant that Llan were able to regroup, and Pwllheli now down to 10 gave their all to try to get back into the game but the player advantage was taking its toll, as they struggled to breakthrough and the home side now getting more of the ball to see the game out.
Sion Parry, Llanystumdwy manager: “I’m absolutely delighted with the result and performance today, I might have been harsh last week about player availability but today we turned up with 16 and the difference it makes is clear to see. We had two injuries today and were able to make subs no problems. “In the last few weeks, had that happened we would’ve been down to 10 or even 9 with 2 injuries.
“I always say in these games you need luck and of course we had some of it today, but I also think we played well, we created chances, and everyone’s delighted with the result.
“We as a club, men or women, have never gone through this many rounds of the Welsh Cup before, so it’s a huge deal for us. I’m so proud of these girls and I hope they’re proud of themselves for what they’ve achieved.”
Llangefni Town 2 (F Owen 68, Coulson 71)
Llandudno 2 (Dutton pen 34, Owen 45+3)
(Llandudno won 5-3 on penalties)

Heartbreak for Llangefni as they fought back from two goals down to level against higher-tier opponents only to lose out on penalties.
Having already knocked one Adran North side out of the cup in Llanfair United, Cefni were going for a giant-killing double when they took on 2016 finalists Tudno at Cae Bob Parry.
The visitors were two-up at half time, Jasmin Dutton converting from the spot on 34 before Hannah Owen struck in the 48th minute against her former club.
On a run of nine straight wins, Tier 3 North Wales Coast League leaders Llangefni were far from finished.
Ffion Owen reduced the deficit midway through the half before a Cerys Gadd assist set up Ellie Coulson for the equaliser soon after.

Cefni pushed hard for a winner, but it was not to be. Penalties were needed to settle the issue and Llandudno finished on top 5-3.
NFA 0
Wrexham 11 (R Hughes 6, 25, 29 & 45+, C Jones 14, Knox 52 pen, 54 & 59, Iddenden 46, Suckley 71, Mahmood pen 80)

As expected, back-to-back Welsh Cup beaten finalists Wrexham stormed into the last 16 at the expense of Tier 3 underdogs NFA.
Rosie Hughes made the most of a rare first team start by scoring four times – on six, 25, 29 and 45 + minutes.
The red-hot Faye Knox bagged a seven-minute hat-trick after the break to make it six goals in four games, while there were singles from Carra Jones, Abbie Iddenden, Ava Suckley and Mariam Mahmood (penalty).
The New Saints 10
CPDM Bangor 0
A very tough ask for a Tier 2 Bangor side which conceded 10 goals at Adran Premier outfit The New Saints, Tiggy Webb (4), Caitlin Chapman (3), Lexie Harrison, Charlotte Crees and sub Maria Francis-Jones splitting the goals.
Flint Town United 0
Wrexham Foresters 5
Tier 3 newcomers Wrexham Foresters produced a stunning display of finishing to see off Adran North hosts Flint Town United at the Essity.
Laura Tobin was the star turn with a hat-trick, while Savannah Miller and player-manager Kirstie Kural also found the net.
This match was reported on in-depth by Grassroots North Wales on Sunday.
