LATEST: Gresford Athletic future under genuine threat after key staff departures

Gresford Athletic’s future is in serious doubt following the sudden resignation of six management staff and committee members today.

The JD Cymru North club released a statement this afternoon confirming four first-team staff, including manager Eddie Maurice-Jones, plus chairman/treasurer Pete Goddard, had left the Colliers.

It added several management and committee members are moving on as the club veers in a “new and different direction.”

A further statement put out tonight said the departures had come out of the blue and left the Wrexham-area club depleted and at a loss of what to do next.

The latest release says:

“Following today’s announcement on Facebook, we would like to state that the resignation of the Committee Members and First Team Coaching Staff came out of the blue and without prior knowledge of the remaining Committee Members of Gresford Athletic Football Club.

“The two remaining members are in the dark regarding the reason for this and are unaware of any so-called new and different direction or plan.

“Unfortunately, the harsh reality is that the future of the football club is now uncertain following today’s resignations. This is something that is deeply upsetting for ourselves and is a sad state for this fantastic football club.

“We will do our best to fulfil this weekend’s away fixture against Holyhead Hotspur in the 2025/26 JD Cymru North and will aim to provide further updates when possible.”
