JD CYMRU PREMIER: North Wales teams enjoy an unbeaten Saturday – can they shine again this weekend?

It is fairly unusual for all North Wales Cymru Premier clubs in action on a Saturday to emerge unbeaten.

But that was the case last weekend as Colwyn Bay and Connah’s Quay Nomads recorded highly impressive wins, while Caernarfon Town and Flint Town United secured draws.

More of the same this weekend would be very welcome with big points up for grabs at both ends of the table.

Third-place Caernarfon Town make the long trip to bottom side Llanelli Town, whom they hammered 6-1 at home back in August.

Nomads, who sit fourth and are unbeaten in their last seven, host a Barry Town United side which held them 0-0 at Jenner Park in late September.

Colwyn Bay, whose boss Mike Wilde has just been named Manager of the Month for October, visit Haverfordwest County, who they saw off 3-0 at the Blue Turtle Areana two months ago.

Flint Town United, who earned a 0-0 at Barry last weekend, welcome champions and leaders The New Saints to the Essity Stadium on Friday.

Saints manager Craig Harrison was seething after his team suffered a rate defeat last weekend, losing out 3-2 at home to Cardiff Met. He will be expecting much better from his full-timers at Flint.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, Bala Town, 2-0 losers at Briton Ferry last Friday, journey to second-place Penybont, who will still be smarting after last weekend’s 4-0 pasting at Nomads. The Lakersiders held Rhys Griffiths’ side 0-0 at Maes Tegid on September 6.

JD CYMRU PREMIER REPORTS

Saturday, November 8

Connah’s Quay Nomads 4 Penybont 0

Nomads continued their impressive recent form with a 4-0 victory over 10-man Penybont at the Essity Stadium.
Declan Poole gave the Nomads the lead in the 22nd minute when he fired into the bottom corner after Bont failed to clear Rhys Hughes’ cross. Hughes doubled the advantage from the penalty spot six minutes later following Joe Woodiwiss’ foul on Ben Nash in the box.
The evening got worse for Penybont in first half stoppage time when Clayton Green received a straight red card for bringing down Callum West when the Nomads midfielder was through on goal.
Callum Bratley netted the hosts’ third goal as he glanced home a header from West’s cross four minutes into the second half. West was the provider again nine minutes later when he perfectly picked out Hughes in the box and the in-form midfielder finished neatly past Luke Armstrong.

Barry Town United 0 Flint Town United 0

Good point for Lee Fowler’s Silkmen at Jenner Park.
Ieuan Owen had a glorious chance to put Barry ahead in the first half as he raced onto Owen Cuddihy’s cross, but the teenager could only fire wide from close range.
Eliot Richards also had a clear sight of goal for Steve Jenkins’ side later in the match, but squandered his opportunity by shooting off target.
Flint enjoyed good periods of possession and passages of play, but struggled with the final ball.
On 25 minutes, the visitors’ Ben Hughes played in a decent ball from the right, and Mikey Burke’s flick header finished just the wrong side of the post.
Hughes made a good interception on 66 minutes, found Ben Wynne, who then slipped the ball to the supporting Mikey Burke, but he screwed his attempted shot across the face of goal.

Caernarfon Town 2 Haverfordwest County 2

There was stoppage-time drama at the Go Goodwins Stadium as Corey Shephard scored a 99th-minute equaliser to salvage a 2-2 draw for Haverfordwest against Caernarfon.
After a goalless first half packed with chances, Caernarfon scored two goals in as many minutes to lead at the hour mark. Adam Davies headed home from Matty Jones’ cross before Sion Bradley cut inside from the left and picked out the top corner with a superb strike for his fourth goal in three games.
However, Haverfordwest hit back in the 64th minute as Owain Jones tucked away the rebound from Ben Ahmun’s saved effort.
Caernarfon almost hung on to all three points before Shephard found the net deep into added time, lashing home a powerful strike just inside the box after the Cofis could only half clear Dan Hawkins’ cross.

Colwyn Bay 3 Llanelli Town 1

Colwyn Bay returned to winning ways by coming from behind to triumph 3-1 at home against bottom-of-the-table Llanelli Town.
Tristian Jenkins put Llanelli in front in the 31st minute with a clinical finish into the bottom corner, but Bay completed a quickfire turnaround before half-time as Jordan Davies poked the ball home from a tight angle before Louis Robles flicked past Alex Pennock from Ethan Roberts’ low cross.
Jamie Cumming then doubled the Seagulls’ advantage in bizarre fashion on 72 minutes as he hooked the ball back into the box from outside the area, with Pennock, who was off his line, only able to watch the ball nestle into the back of the net.
