In wet conditions at Bastion Gardens, Prestatyn battled both the elements and a determined Trearddur Bay side to claim another vital three points, edging a dramatic 2-1 victory in front of their home supporters.
The game began at a measured pace as both sides adapted to the blustery weather, but it soon sparked into life. Prestatyn were inches away from an early lead when Tom Cardias-Williams saw his effort blocked on the line, and Adam Hold fired the rebound wide from close range.
Trearddur Bay responded immediately, catching Town’s defence out with a well-timed run that beat the offside trap, only to be denied by goalkeeper Adam Reid, who raced off his line to smother the shot. From the resulting corner, the visitors came agonisingly close again, striking the post.
Prestatyn began to assert control as Robbie Parry started to weave his magic in attack. His quick feet opened up the visitors’ backline, combining neatly with Hold before seeing his diving header saved by Bay goalkeeper.Paul Pritchard.
Moments later, Parry’s persistence paid off as he was brought down inside the box. The winger picked himself up and confidently dispatched the penalty to give Town the lead.
However, their joy was short-lived. Straight from the restart, Trearddur Bay’s Liam Armstrong produced a moment of brilliance, spotting keeper Reid off his line and lofting a stunning strike from just inside the Prestatyn half – the ball gliding perfectly into the net for an instant equaliser.
Buoyed by that spectacular goal, the visitors pushed forward and forced another sharp save from Reid before the break.
Half-Time: Prestatyn Town 1–1 Trearddur Bay
Prestatyn came out with renewed intent in the second half, with Hold again looking lively. He thought he’d beaten the offside trap only to be halted by a raised flag to the frustration of the home crowd.
Manager Gareth Thomas made his first change on 67 minutes, introducing Rob Hughes for Cardias-Williams – and the substitute soon helped turn the tide.
From a well-worked set piece, Joe Holt delivered a pinpoint free-kick which found Aaron Simpson, who powered a header into the net to score his first goal in Town colours and restore the lead.
Thomas then handed young Loui O’Carroll a chance, bringing him on for Hold. The visitors pushed hard for another equaliser and came close again – Simpson showing his defensive instincts by clearing one effort off the line, before Reid produced a tremendous reflex save to preserve the lead.
With Trearddur Bay throwing men forward, O’Carroll almost sealed it late on. He rounded the keeper but could only watch as his shot from a tight angle struck the post.
As the rain intensified and the match moved deep into stoppage time, the cards came out. Prestatyn’s Jordan Worthington received a second yellow, before an altercation saw Trearddur Bay’s Sion Edwards and Prestatyn’s Rob Hughes both dismissed – leaving the hosts with nine men and the visitors with ten.
Despite the lengthy added time, the whistle finally blew after more than 105 minutes. Prestatyn held firm, defending resolutely to secure a hard-fought and entertaining victory.
