Ardal North West: Dramatic fightback earns Kinmel Bay first win, Llangefni strike late twice to draw with Prestatyn

ARDAL NORTH WEST LEAGUE REPORTS -AUGUST 8-9, 2026

Kinmel Bay 3-2 CPD Pwllheli

Three goals in the closing minutes turned potential defeat into a thrilling victory for Kinmel Bay at Y Morfa.

Trailing 2-0 after 80 minutes, the home side looked set to suffer back-to-back losses in Ardal North West until they dramatically turned the tables.

Pwllheli took a 21st minute lead when Osian Thomas made it four goals in as many matches since signing from Caernarfon Town, Gethin Thomas with the assist.

Six minutes into the second half, Dafydd Roberts made it 2-0 to the Llŷn Peninsula outfit, Josua Jones the supplier.

Kinmel Bay were much improved after the interval, but the goals failed to arrive until in the 81st minute Matty Rees volleyed home from a Josh Parry cross.

In the 83rd minute it was 2-2 when Paris Gray flicked on a Rees corner and Liam Jones knocked in the equaliser.

Nine minutes past the 90, the hosts were in dreamland when Parry’s ball in was flicked on by Steve Kirk and Gray was there to fire in the decider.

Llangefni Town 3-3 Prestatyn Town

Llangefni produced a dramatic late comeback to recover from 3-1 down and force a draw at Cae Bob Parry.

The hosts made the perfect start on eight minutes when Mo El-Arab pounced on a misplaced pass inside the Prestatyn half before playing in Clive Williams, who made no mistake with his finish.

Prestatyn responded positively and the pressure eventually told after the half-hour mark. Ryan Kershaw’s delivery unto the box fell to Calyn Spencer, who produced a superb bicycle-kick-style volley into the top corner to bring the visitors level.

Less than 10 minutes later, some unconvincing defending from the hosts allowed Alex Jones to pounce, with the midfielder sliding the ball into the path of Tom Hilditch, who produced a sweet strike into the corner.

Prestatyn started the second half with the same intent and soon extended their advantage.

Spencer provided a clever nod-on from a well-delivered ball, allowing Hilditch to race onto it before calmly finding the far corner with another composed finish.

Prestatyn looked comfortable and in control for large spells as the game progressed.

Then came a dramatic late twist.

With just five minutes remaining, a Joe Holt delivery found Aaron Simpson, whose header was perfectly directed towards the far post. Zebb Edwards reacted quickest, getting there first and sliding in to finish what appeared to be a fourth.

However, the flag was raised. The decision was met with considerable confusion from the Prestatyn bench and supporters.

Llangefni continued to push forward, and moments later were awarded a controversial penalty after a challenge from keeper Alex Reid, which looked to be outside the area.

The spot-kick was converted by Aron Hughes-Jones in the 88th minute, giving the hosts renewed belief.

On 90 minutes, Clive Williams lashed into the top corner to complete an extraordinary Llangefni comeback.

CPD Llannefydd 2-0 CPD Y Felinheli

Second half goals from Charlie Urquhart and Llyr Morris, on 55 and 90+4 minutes respectively, earned Llannefydd maximum points.

Mynydd Isa 0-3 Llanrwst United

Luke O’Mahoney continued his great start to the season with a double in Llanrwst’s three-goal victory at Argoed Sports and Social.

O’Mahoney made it seven goals in four starts this term with his pair, a Huw Williams own goal also helping the Rwsters’ cause.

Bethesda Athletic 0-0 Llay Miners Welfare

Both sides took a point from a goalless draw at Parc Meurig on Sunday afternoon.

Penmaenmawr Phoenix 4-3 CPD Nefyn United

Phoenix edged a seven-goal cracker thanks to goals from Matthew Robinson, Logan Williams and an Anthony Marshall double, Zak Pike (2) and Tomi Jones-Evans responding for Nefyn.

Trearddur Bay 10-2 Broughton United

Osian Hughes (4, 1 pen), Callum Parry (3), Jay Gibbs, Liam Morris and Joe Todd made up double figures for Trearddur Bay, Lewis Jones and James Rutter with consolations for Broughton.
