Flint maintain magnificent home record – skipper Owen delivers a double

One of the best home league records in North Wales football continued to flourish as Flint made it 10 wins in 12 at the Essity after recovering from a goal down to beat Briton Ferry on Saturday.

After finishing last season with eight straight Cymru Premier victories on their home ground, Lee Fowler’s side lost their 2025-26 opener to Caernarfon Town in August, but are undefeated in three at Cae-y-Castell since.

Over the past 12 home CPL matches, only The New Saints have a better record than Flint’s, the champions claiming 33 points out of a possible 36 as opposed to the Silkmen’s 31.

The Silkmen would have won Saturday’s game far more comfortably had it not been for an heroic performance from Llansawel keeper Will Fuller.

Darren Stephenson drilled across the face of goal for the hosts before the visitors took an eighth-minute lead.

Flint failed to clear a Corey Hurford cross into the box and Ollie Anderson headed the ball down nicely for Ruben Davies to control and finish.

From this point the home side dominated. Michael Burke broke down the left and crossed low into Stephenson, whose close-range shot was pushed behind by Fuller.

Jake Phillips then delivered a fine corner from the left and Harry Owen’s near post header could only be helped into the net by Fuller – 1-1 after 16 minutes.

Elliott Reeves muscled his way into a good shooting position but Fuller saved, then a Phillips corner bounced off the bar.

A long throw into the box came to Stephenson, who was foiled again by Fuller at the foot of his post.

From the Phillips flag-kick Owen headed against the bar.

Fuller continued his one-man crusade against the home strike force after the break, getting down well to thwart a 20-yard effort from sub Jake Canavan.

Phillips sent in a low cross from the right, Ben Hughes flicked the ball goalwards and Fuller produced a tremendous tip-over.

Finally, the winner arrived on 72 minutes and it came via the same combination that supplied the equaliser.

Phillips whipped in another superb cross from the right and that man Owen headed home.

Fuller made one more marvellous save before the end, pushing away Alec Mudimu’s header.
