Not only did Kinmel Bay suffer their first defeat of the season on Saturday – they also lost through injury a key player who might be out for some time.

Charlie Jones has been a vital member of a side which won its first seven games this campaign before going down 2-0 at Mochdre Sports in the NWCFA Intermediate Cup at the weekend.

The 28-year-old vice-captain was forced off with a serious shoulder injury (ruptured AC joint). in the second half. He now faces an extended spell on the sidelines.

“Everyone at the club sends their best wishes for a smooth recovery and looks forward to seeing Charlie back in action as soon as possible,” said a club statement.

Jones recently graduated with the RAF and has been named first team player of the month for September. One of his biggest contributions to the side is the ability to score vital goals.

Kinmel Bay admitted they were second best to an impressive Mochdre on Saturday.

Joint-manager Alex Craig said: “We never quite settled into the game and were punished by a well-drilled Mochdre outfit who took their chances to secure a place in the next round.

“We were not at our best and fell short of the standards we demand of ourselves. We congratulate Mochdre on their deserved victory.”

Kinmel Bay will look to respond next weekend when they take on Menai Bridge in the FAW Amateur Cup. The tie will be played at St Asaph’s pitch, with kick-off at 2pm.
