Pwllheli (white) go close

Having had their 32-match unbeaten league run ended in their last game, Pwllheli began what they hope will be another long streak of success with an emphatic win at Trearddur Bay on Sunday.

The back-to-back North East Wales League champions took an 11th minute lead when Leanne Rees Hughes at left-back fed the ball to Bess Roberts, who broke down the flank and hit a low cross which Sian Moore tapped in at the back-post.

The Llŷn Peninsula side added a second on 24 minutes through Nia Jones.

The hosts failed to clear a corner and Hayley Rees-Jones passed to Nia Jones, whose first shot was kept out by young keeper Brooke Northcote, but the Pwll player netted from the rebound.

Trearddur Bay pulled one back on 35, a swift and clever counter-attack leading to Erin Mulvey delivering a lovely cross which Jess Woods finished off.

Half-time 2-1 to Pwllheli and plenty to play for.

Veteran Meinir Thomas made a welcome appearance for the Anglesey side at the start of the second half.

It was still 2-1 at the hour, but on 64 minutes Pwllheli increased their lead when a Bess Roberts strike was diverted into her own net by the unfortunate Catrin Jones.

A fourth away goal arrived on 67 minutes when Bess Roberts produced a great switch of play from the left, sending a fine ball into Moore, who was one-on-one with the keeper and finished into the bottom corner for her second of the afternoon.

The game now all but won, Pwll made sure with two more goals in the closing minutes.

Stacey Sansome concocted a brilliant pass for skipper Magi Hughes, who coming in from the left applied the finish.

And it was a well-deserved goal for Bess Roberts which rounded things off on 88.

Sansome and Moore combined nicely, the latter heading the ball down for Roberts to volley into the net.

Once more teenage keeper Northcote (pictured above) was outstanding for Trearddur Bay, her bravery and determination making her stand out,
