Pwllheli joined Llangefni Town on 12 points at the top of North Wales Women’s League West after Sunday’s 5-1 win on Anglesey.
Cefni still lead the table on goal difference, but Pwll have a game in hand on the islanders with a perfect record of four straight victories.
The Llŷn Peninsula women had to recover from conceding a first-minute goal at Lon Isallt, but came back strongly to claim the spoils.
Bay went 1-0 up when Sarah Flower broke down the right hand side and lobbed the keeper.
Pwllheli responded well and equalised five minutes later when Trearddur struggled to clear a corner, and Hayley Rees-Williams headed in from close range.
The game was very even for the next 20 minutes with both teams sharing possession. That was until the visitors fizzed in a cross which ended up in the back of the net, with the last touch coming off unlucky home defender Stacey Evans.
Trearddur felt Pwllheli’s third goal was offside, but Magi Hughes’ through ball enabled Bess Roberts to collect and finish well on 37 minutes.
This led to a change of formation by Bay, who started the game playing with a back-three of Shelley McMullan, Stacey Evans and Catrin Jones. The switch brought Gemma Thomas back from midfield to slot into centre back alongside Evans.
The scoreline stayed the same until the half time whistle went
At the interval the hosts made two changes; Rhian Griffiths and Freya Davies brought on to replace Saffron Williams and Ashleigh Jones, who was struggling with an injury.
The sun was now setting and was causing some difficulties for the players on the pitch.
Trearddur kept it tight in the back, holding a good line and catching the visitors offside on numerous occasions.
They were also helped by some excellent stops from goalkeeper Gemma Lancaster.
Davies made a positive impact with her skillful runs at the away defence, but failed to keep a shot down to trouble the Pwll keeper.
On the hour the hosts made their final change, introducing Abbie Manning for Amelia Roberts.
More pressure was put on the Bay defence, who cleared well, but then failed to close down Jini Owen-Hughes quick enough to prevent her making it 4-1 with a blinder from the left-side.
The last goal of the game came from Pwllheli captain Magi Hughes, who picked the ball up outside the box and lobbed the keeper smartly.
Bay’s player of the match was keeper Lancaster, who had a brilliant game and couldn’t do much about any of the goals. She made some quality stops, and displayed good hands throughout.
Sunday was Sgt Hannah Smith’s final game for Trearddur Bay before she gets posted out to Germany in a few weeks time. She will be missed sorely both on and off the pitch by all of the ladies. Good luck Hannah!
