ARDAL NORTH WEST REPORTS AND TABLE: AUGUST 29-30

Porthmadog 3 Llanrwst United 2

Report: Mr Treflyn Jones

Five straight league wins for Porthmadog – but they had to get out of jail to beat a lively Llanrwst at Y Traeth on Friday night.

Port’s win was brought about by a never say die attitude, some clinical finishing and a slice of good fortune here and there.

The hosts drew first blood shortly after the 20-minute mark when a pinpoint cross by Shaun Cavanagh was gloriously headed home by debutant striker Dan Atkins, on loan from Colwyn Bay.

Llanrwst rallied strongly, and the 39th minute, eagle-eyed referee Paul Scholes pointed to the spot when he noticed an infringement in the Port box during an intense moment of pin-ball.

Up stepped former Traeth favourite Callum Parry to dispatch his firm shot past keeper Josh Cooke’s left hand into the corner.

The Rwsters tails were well and truly up now and Cooke had to smother a point-blank header on his line before the visitors took the lead. A powerful first-time volley from Davies slammed against the crossbar and the rebound was expertly dispatched into the net by Math Thomas to send the away supporters into raptures.

After the break, Port supporters had their hearts in their mouths on the hour after Parry burst clean through only to send his firm drive over Cooke’s bar.

A minute later, Cooke was forced to parry against that bar to thwart an audacious chip by Davies.

All the while, Port had their moments too with some swift breaks and with 67 minutes gone a Cavanagh corner as met by the experienced head of Gruff John whose effort looped over the keeper into the net for a shock equalizer.

For the final 15 minutes, both sets of supporters had to endure some nerve-shredding moments but Port`s Zac Pike sent the home fans at the Town End wild when he headed home a Caio Evans delivery for 3-2.

Llanrwst were far from done, however, and Port were indebted to Cooke for keeping out another piledriver from Davies before the end.

Llangefni Town 1 NFA 0

NFA keeper Philip Scott Williams produces a brave block

Two well-matched unbeaten sides met at Cae Bob Parry in a close-fought contest which saw Llangefni edge the win.

Gethin Thomas scored the only goal of the game after 38 minutes in what was an encounter of limited scoring chances.

NFA, who proved stubborn and solid opposition, were at a disadvantage from the 57th minute when David Wallis was red-carded, but the Rhyl-based visitors were not to concede again.

CPD Pwllheli 3 Penmaenmawr Phoenix 0

Sion Jones’ 22nd minute goal was all that separated the teams at half time and it needed a double in the second period from Ashley Ainsworth to clinch a home win.

In his third season at Pwllheli, Ainsworth converted a 61st minute penalty before finishing off a Jason Banks assist to make it 37 goals in 59 appearances for the club.

A topsy-turvy battle at Bangor City Stadium saw Trearddur Bay cling on for the points.

The incredible Tom Hilditch followed up his four-goal salvo in the previous weekend’s 5-3 Welsh Cup win at Llangefni by notching a hat-trick against his latest opponents.

Hilditch netted on 15, 25 and 30 minutes to make it seven goals in his last two games and 11 in seven overall for the season since his transfer from Porthmadog.

Anthony Marshall also found the net for the islanders in a first half which ended 4-1, Jonathan Collo replying for the Wrexham visitors.

Collo and Ben Hughes added further goals for Llay after the break, making it 4-3 with 20 minutes still to play.

Despite having Josh Stanley red-carded on 78, Trearddur held on for the win.

Prestatyn Town 2 CPD Llannefydd 0

Prestatyn sit fourth in the table and remain unbeaten in six matches after Friday’s two-goal victory against Llannefydd.

It was 0-0 until the 77th minute when Alex Jones broke the deadlock for the Seasiders.
