Work progresses on amazing £2 million stadium redevelopment in North Wales

Denbigh Town Football Club is pressing ahead with the £2 million redevelopment of Central Park, with the team set to return to their home ground in September.

The project represents the most significant upgrades in the club’s history and is designed to benefit both players and the wider community.

At the heart of the redevelopment is a new £1.2 million community facility. The two-storey building will feature UEFA-standard changing rooms, two dedicated referees’ rooms, a modern kitchen, and office space.

Upstairs, supporters and visitors will enjoy a bar with seating for up to 100 people, complete with a balcony overlooking the pitch and spectacular views of the Vale of Clwyd.

The building has been designed to provide the club with first-class facilities while also serving as a space for the local community.

The improvements continue around the ground itself. Two new stands are being installed on the far side of the pitch, increasing capacity to over 2,000, with more than 600 seats ensuring the club meets Cymru Premier registration requirements. Supporters will also benefit from widened pathways, allowing easier movement and improved access on matchdays.

A brand new television gantry and a purpose-built VAR room are also being added, bringing Central Park in line with the demands of modern football broadcasting and competition standards. Under the surface, more than 2,000 metres of ducting has been laid to completely connect Central Park and the demands of new technology, which includes a new state-of-the-art PA system that will ring out across all corners of the ground, along with a number of data points around the ground to service broadcasters and VAR.

The pitch has been completely re-laid and is now the same size as that of Wembley Stadium, providing players with an excellent playing surface for years to come, aided by a brand new automated sprinkler system.

The redevelopment has been supported by significant investment, including funding from the Cymru Football Foundation’s “Fit for Future” programme, backed by the Premier League along with the Community Facilities Programme, Clocaenog Wind Farm Fund, DLL Levelling Up Fund, Freeman Evans Trust, Postcode Lottery, Sport Wales, Comic Relief, DCC Community Sums and Lock Stock Self Storage.

Alongside the facilities already in place, the work ensures that Denbigh Town will be ready to host fixtures for the 2026 UEFA Under-19 European Championships, as well as other high-level matches in the future.

Club chairman Shon Powell said: “This redevelopment is a major step forward for Denbigh Town. It gives us facilities that are not only fit for purpose at senior level but will also benefit the wider community with endless opportunities for groups and gatherings to utilise the space.

“The improvements will also help put Denbigh in the spotlight by hosting international football in the short, medium and long-term future, which is fundamental to inspiring the next generation in
the Vale of Clwyd.
