LOCK STOCK ARDAL NORTH WEST – REPORTS AUGUST 16

Llay Welfare 0 CPD Dinas Bangor City 1876 3

Bangor regained top spot on goals scored after an away victory at nine-man Llay on Saturday afternoon.

Unbeaten 1876 made a strong start at The Ring and took a 12th minute lead when Liam Morris notched his fifth goal of the season.

A tenacious James Barry won the ball before playing in Morris, who broke into the box and drilled past keeper Cameron Dutton.

Llay responded with some attacks of their own, but good defending from Logan Williams and Louis Corrigan kept them at bay.

The visitors rallied and Dutton denied both Morris and Dylan Summers-Jones after it appeared Corrig McGonigle had been fouled in the box.

In first half added time, 1876 doubled their lead.

McGonigle was able to tap home after a great low ball from Summers-Jones.

Four minutes into the second half, the Wrexham hosts were in big trouble when keeper Dutton saw red for appearing to push his hand into an opponent’s face.

McGonigle put away the resulting penalty for his seventh goal in five matches this season.

Things soon only got worse for the home side when Scott Swords was shown a second yellow for allegedly kicking out.

Red card two

Bangor saw out the rest of the game in a professional manner to clinch a fourth victory in five starts.

Iwan Owen was a four-goal hero for a Felinheli side which lifted themselves off the bottom with a first win of the campaign at the fifth attempt.

The pick of Owen’s quartet was a beautiful finish with the outside of his right foot which curled into the top corner.

The 30-year-old attacker also applied two close range finishes from crosses via the left and ran clear into the box before calmly slotting past the keeper. Assists came from Cal Macdonald, Iwan Edwards (2) and Byron Davis.

Davis netted twice, one from the penalty spot and the other from a Ryan Cain assist. The 18-year-old is already on seven goals for the season.

Steffan Toplis and Ashley Ainsworth replied for Pwllheli, who received two red cards – Ioan Williams after 52 minutes and Carl Jones on 57.

  • A minute’s silence was held before the game in tribute to Tom Cain, father of club cameraman Pat Cain, father-in-law to Pat’s wife Bethan and grandad of Felinheli players Ryan, Jack, Kyla and Jody, as well as Lara, who plays for Llangefni. Tom was a keen football follower who watched as many Felinheli games as possible and will be much-missed.

Bethesda Athletic 0 Porthmadog 3

A lovely shot of Parc Meurig taken by a Porthmadog fan – diolch yn fawr

Porthmadog made it four wins out of four at the expense of a Bethesda side they were facing in a league game for the first time in about 35 years.

Report: Mr Treflyn Jones

On a sweltering August afternoon, the picturesque Parc Meurig provided the backdrop to an absorbing league encounter between two of North Wales football’s sleeping giants.

Port dominated early possession, but Pesda went close to scoring in the 11th minute when visiting custodian Josh Cooke had to block a close range effort with his foot.

Thereafter Bethesda created several promising counter-attacking moves which were often prompted by the dangerous Joe Todd.

Port also threatened on the break and Sam Reynolds after 20 minutes went desperately close to opening the scoring when he cunningly stole a march on two defenders before seemingly rolling the ball into an empty net with keeper Gethin Hughes all at sea.

However, one of Pesda’s defenders recovered well to produce a splendid goal-line clearance.

On 32 minutes, Port went one-up when a defence-splitting pass from centre-back Gruff Ellis arrived at the feet of Rhys Alun, who chipped the ball confidently over the keeper at the end of a strong run.

Eight minutes later, Port doubled their account when Rhys Alun netted again following a superb move involving Jonny Bravo and Reynolds.

Soon after, a 25 yard piledriver from Cai Jones brought out the very best in goalkeeper Hughes.

Port went three-up four minutes into added time at the end of the first period. A terrific run by Reynolds enabled himself to find Bravo and the busy striker rounded things off by calmly tapping the ball past the onrushing keeper to give the visitors a commanding lead.

After the interval, the game seemed to settle into a rather dour midfield struggle although Port created slightly the more chances.

Things got a bit tetchy and physical as the half wore on and as the players understandably tired in the heat and the referee brandished a straight red card at Pesda’s Tomos Hughes on 70 minutes for seemingly aiming an injudicious head-butt at Bravo.

CPD Llannefydd 1 Trearddur Bay 0

Llannefydd’s unbeaten start continied as a Tom Jones penalty on 44 minutes proved enough to see off the challenge of Trearddur Bay.

Penmaenmawr Phoenix 1 Mynydd Isa 2

Nathan Mendoza’s double ensured Mynydd Isa won this battle of promoted teams at Cae Sling.

Alfie Caldecott put Pen in front after 12 minutes from a Ricky Jones assist, but Mendoza levelled on 31, Dan Wainwright the chance supplier.

The game was decided by an 82nd minute goal for Mendoza, the assist this time provided by Jay Wiles.

Phoenix are bottom of the table, while Isa sit in nonth spot.

St Asaph City 1 Llangefni Town 1

Llangefni dropped points for the first time this season and slipped down to second behind CPD Dinas Bangor City 1876 on amount of goals scored.

Josh Roberts handed Saints a 15th minite lead and it remained 1-0 until 87 was showing on the clock when Caio Inch pulled the islanders level.
