After a difficult week off the field surrounding departures from the club of fan favourites, perhaps the last thing Rhyl 1879 needed was a tough away trip against a Guilsfield side undefeated at home in the league since last October?
On the contrary, the stiff challenge facing the Lilywhites brought out all their fighting spirit and togetherness, earning them a cracking victory at the PRS Recruitment Stadium.
Rhyl made it four points from six since arriving in Cymru North at the expense of a Guils outfit undefeated in nine league encounters on their own turf – seven wins and two draws – dating back to a 5-0 defeat against champions-to-be Colwyn Bay 10 months ago.
Saturday’s game sparked into life in the 27th minute when Morgan Murray opened the scoring in style. Latching onto a perfectly-timed pass from Archie Jones, Murray rifled a superb effort into the top left corner to give Rhyl the lead.
However, the hosts responded immediately, with Samuel Flory levelling the score within moments.
The first half ended all square at 1-1, setting the stage for an action-packed second period. Just eight minutes after the restart, Ben Lawrence restored Rhyl’s advantage with a moment of brilliance.
From the edge of the box, the defender unleashed a looping strike that soared in over goalkeeper Luke Evans.
The visitors were in full flow and, five minutes later, extended their lead through local talent Archie Jones. Bursting into the area, he calmly slotted the ball into the bottom left corner before racing to celebrate with the travelling fans behind the goal.
Guilsfield, to their credit, refused to go quietly and pulled one back in the 67th minute through Iwan Matthews, setting up a tense finale.
But Paul Moore’s men dug deep, showing resilience and discipline to see out the game and secure a memorable away win.
Speaking after the match, Moore said: “I’m delighted with the performance and the result. Guilsfield hardly ever lose here, so to come and take all three points is a credit to the lads’ work rate and determination.”

CPD Y Rhyl 1879: Oliver Farebrother, Ben Lawrence, Brady Coldwell, Leo Latter, Reece Fairhurst, Rocco Hewitt, Ben Lightfoot, Paul Fleming, Morgan Murray, Jack Parry, Archie Jones. Subs: Arthur Hancock, Seb Bolton, Dan Wood, Josh Lawrenson, James Farr, Ahmed Ibrahim, Lewis Hodson.

  • Rhyl now turnattention to their next JD Cymru North fixture — a home clash against Caersws on Saturday 16th August, kicking off 2.30 pm at the Hops & Barley Community Stadium.

Airbus UK Broughton 4 Holyhead Hotspur 0

Airbus remain early league leaders on goal difference following a comfortable 4-0 win over newly-promoted Holyhead Hotspur at the Hollingsworth Group Stadium.
The visitors kept the Wingmakers at bay for 41 minutes, until George Peers won a penalty which he stepped up to convert before Jordan Evans curled into the top corner to double the lead in first half stoppage time.
Holyhead hit the woodwork twice in quick succession after the break, but Kaiden Cooke’s close-range finish extended the hosts’ advantage on 65 minutes.
Peers added a fourth for the Wingmakers late in the day with a powerful strike at the back post, taking his tally to five goals in the first two league games of the season.

Brickfield Rangers 4 Buckley Town 0

A superb result for Brickfield who earned their first-ever win in the JD Cymru North in great fashion..
Rangers had failed to find the net in their first two league fixtures but bagged two goals inside the opening 21 minutes at Clywedog Park thanks to Danny Jones’ double.
It stayed at 2-0 until late on when substitutes Alex Darlington and Jay Richardson both fired past James McHarrie.

Caersws 0 Mold Alexandra 2

Tyler Berry’s brace secured a first league victory of the season for Mold.
Berry, who joined Alex on loan from Connah’s Quay Nomads in the summer, scored both of his goals inside the opening 17 minutes.
Caersws hit the woodwork twice and had a goal ruled out in the second half.

Denbigh Town 1 Holywell Town 2

Two wins out of two for Holywell, who edged past a Denbigh side playing at their temporary home the Blue Turtle Arena in Colwyn Bay.
Friday night’s clash saw Denbigh start brightly and have two penalty appeals waved away, but a costly mistake from Cameron Darling allowed Jamie Breese to round the Reds goalkeeper and slot Holywell ahead just before the half hour.
Goalkeeper John Danby was on fine form for the visitors who did not double their lead until the 69th minute when skipper Danny Sullivan scored from outside the box.
Bobby Beaumont’s deflected effort in the 82nd minute halved the deficit, but Denbigh could not find a late equaliser as Johnny Haseldin’s men held on for three points.

Gresford Athletic 2 Ruthin Town 1

Athletic scooped their first three points of the season with a hard-fought home win over Ruthin Town on Friday night.
Both sides had numerous opportunities in the first half but the deadlock was not broken until 43 minutes when Jake Roberts headed home from Dan Collins’ cross to give Gresford the lead.
Collins was provider again for the Colliers’ second goal just before the hour, this time for Iwan Roberts.
Alex Smith’s late own goal gave Ruthin a lifeline, but the hosts were able to hold on for victory.

Llandudno 4 Flint Mountain 0

The Seasiders led inside 16 minutes as Harvey Bennett headed home from close range, before Mark Cadwallader built on his hat-trick in the Nathaniel MG Cup last week by doubling the advantage early in the second half.
Brothers Callum Stephens and Adam Stephens added their name to the scoresheet in the final half hour to wrap up all three points.

Penrhyncoch 1 Newtown 2

Devon Torry scored a late winner to give Newtown a 2-1 comeback victory at Cae Baker on Friday.
Following a goalless first half, Penrhyncoch took the lead just five minutes after the break through Dion Phillips, but new Robins signing Steffan Jones levelled on 68.
After multiple Dave Jones saves kept Newtown in the contest, Torry’s decisive goal arrived with just three minutes left on the clock via Ollie Sharp’s cross.
