McManus in temporary charge at Bangor City 1876

Bangor City 1876 striker Declan McManus will take on the vacant manager’s role on a temporary basis following the resignation of assistant-manager and interim first-team chief Sean Eardley yesterday.

Three-time Cymru Premier League title winner McManus joined Bangor to a huge fanfare in January 2026. He has since scored 27 goals in 26 appearances for the club, winning the treble of Ardal North West title, FAW Amateur Trophy and Ardal North Cup last season.

The 32-year-old Scot has played for a host of Scottish clubs, including Aberdeen, Greenock Morton, Alloa Athletic, Raith Rovers, Dunfermline Athletic, Ross County and Falkirk, as well as Fleetwood Town in England, Northern Ireland’s Coleraine and record 17-time Cymru Premier champions The New Saints.

He has also won a total of 12 caps for Scotland across under-17, U19 and U 21 levels.

McManus won the Scottish League One title with Greenock Morton in 2014–15, also being named League One Player of the Season, plus the Scottish Championship and Scottish Challenge Cup with Ross County in 2018-19.

In 2019-20, he netted 19 goals in 26 appearances during a loan spell at Falkirk.

McManus joined The New Saints in 2021 and over four seasons bagged 71 Cymru Premier goals in 83 outings. He was part of title-winning squads in 2021-22, 2022-23, 2023-24 and 2024-25.

The striker won the CPL Golden Boot in 2021-22 and 2022-23 and is the Welsh Premier’s all-time record goalscorer in Europe.

McManus is current top-scorer for Bangor this season.

“The Board of Directors would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Sean for his years of service, commitment and dedication to Bangor City 1876 FC. We wish Sean all the very best for the future and thank him for everything he has contributed to the club.

“While the Board continues the process of appointing a new First Team Manager, a decision has been made for First Team player Declan McManus to take charge of the team on an interim basis until a successful managerial appointment is made.

“Martin Jones and Adam Lavender will continue in their current roles, supporting Declan during this interim period.

“The trio will lead the team for this weekend’s Welsh Cup fixture against Mold, as preparations continue for the important fixture.

“The Board of Directors will continue to keep supporters updated across the club’s social media platforms and will communicate any further news as soon as it becomes available.”
