Brymbo Football Club have appointed renowned North East Wales football figure Lee Phelan as their new first team manager.

As a player, over the past three decades Phelan probably ranks as one of the most recognisable names and faces in the Wrexham area.

Having spent most of his playing career in the tier 2 Huws Gray Cymru Alliance turning out for the likes of Buckley Town, Gresford Athletic and gap Queens Park, he went on to feature in the top flight with Cefn Druids.

He has also served a number of other North East clubs including Mold Alexandra, Llangollen Town and Lex XI, as well as Brymbo. Another claim to fame is that Phelan won the former Welsh National League Premier Division with five different teams.

Renowned for his outstanding skills, this set-piece specialist also won high respect for possessing one of the best array of techniques and passing around.

Phelan also has experience on a managerial level at Lex Vets and TNS Futsal.

In recent years, he has made quite an impression in the sport of futsal playing-wise too, having represented Great Britain and winning the Welsh Cup with Wrexham.

Phelan was also assistant-boss four years ago at Brymbo when Ricky Evans was at the helm, so he knows the Steelmen well.

Brymbo FC said in a statement: “Lee has been around the club all through pre-season and his name around the area has helped us attract players and more to follow in the near future.”

Phelan will be assisted by ex Brymbo manager Colin Parry, coach Brian Potts and player-coach Tom Potts at the North Easl Wales League Division 2 club.
