Summer moves across North Wales football – nine more transfers to highlight

Great signing for Pwllheli.

The 22-year-old Jones-Owen arrives at The Rec from Blaenau Ffestiniog Amateurs, whom he rejoined in January 2023 and netted 15 goals in 43 matches, including back-to-back hat-tricks last season for a Quarrymen outfit which landed the North Wales Coast West Division One title and NWCFA Junior Cup double.

Had a brief spell with Barmouth and Dyffryn at the start of 2022-23 but was also at Blaenau before that.

Now it’s time for a rise in standard at Ardal North West club Pwllheli.

A talented young attacker with a real eye for goal. Owain is described by his new club as “hungry, energetic, and ready to make an impact in the league.”

Owain said: “I’m really excited to join Pwllheli. It feels like a great club to develop at, and I’m looking forward to the challenge — and to scoring as many goals as I can!”

Manager Carl Jones added: “Owain is one to watch – he’s got a natural instinct for scoring and a great attitude to match. We’re very happy to have him on board as we prepare for the new season.”

Ricky Wilson (Saltney Town to Broughton United)

After two seasons with Saltney Town, 28-year-old Wilson joins North East Wales League Division 1 new boys Broughton United.

Joined Saltney at the start of 2023-24 and went on to make 44 first team appearances for the Bordermen.

In his first season at the Dragon Steel Stadium, Town were in tier 3 Ardal North West, but ended up getting relegated. Last term they competed in the North East Wales League Premier Division.

Wilson has previously worn the colours of Mold Alexandra, where he featured for the reserves, and Hawarden Rangers, where he got some first team action.

Broughton coach Steve Wright said this about his first signing of the summer: “Ricky is a great signing for us. Having managed him before, I know exactly what we’re getting.

“Great quality, drive and commitment with an excellent attitude to match, so will fit right in with the rest of the squad.”

Osian Price (Mynydd Llandegai to Bethesda Athletic)

Has spent the past two seasons with tier 4 North Wales Coast West Premier Division side Mynydd Llandegai, making 58 appearances and notching four goals.

Prior to that, he played for two seasons with Bethesda Rovers, joining that club on formation at the beginning of 2021-22.

He scored in Rovers’ first-ever game, going on to play 58 times for the Ogwen club and bagging six goals.

Now he wants to test his skills in tier 3 with newly-promoted Bethesda Athletic, whose manager Mark Hughes said: “I’m really pleased Osh has signed. We thought we knew his qualities as a good ball carrier, with pace and strength but he’s come in pre-season and really impressed with his game intelligence and composure.

“He wants to test himself in tier 3, which is exactly the type of approach we need.”

Iwan Cartwright (to Llandudno)

Cartwright becomes Llandudno’s sixth signing of the summer window, following the arrivals of Kieran Smith, Shaun Pearson, Ryan Austin, Joe Carey and Jordan Pownall.

Wrexham-born, 28-year-old defender Cartwright has made 173 Cymru Premier appearances over spells with Caernarfon Town, Cefn Druids and Newtown. He represented Druids in the Europa League in 2019-20.

Starting at Wrexham, where he did not make a competitive first team appearance, Cartwright went on to stints with English pyramid clubs Nuneaton Borough and Hednesford Town before signing for Newtown in 2017.

Moved onto Druids before putting pen to paper for Caernarfon at the start of 2021-22. going on to appear in 86 Cymru Premier matches for the Canaries.

Aiden Jones (to Blaenau Ffestiniog Amateurs)

Young player who hails from Nefyn, Aiden has signed for tier 4 North Wales Coast West Premier newcomers Blaenau Ffestiniog for the 2025-26 season.

Carwyn Foster (Porthmadog to Blaenau Ffestiniog Amateurs)

Formerly with Porthmadog and Penrhyndeudraeth, 22-year-old Foster is another new face at Cae Clyd.

He ended last season playing for Porthmadog’s Development team but prior to that was with tier 4 club Penrhyndeudraett, where he made 63 first team appearances between the start of 2022-23 and the early part of 2024-25, scoring four times.

In 2021-22, he was at Porthmadog, making a couple of brief substitute appearances for the first team, but mainly representing the Development side.

Rhodri Edwards (Denbigh Town to Llandyrnog United)

Excellent young centre back, aged just 17, makes the move over from Denbigh Town, where he was a regular for the reserves last season.

Llandyrnog manager Sion Morris said: “Delighted to get Rhodri to sign for us this season.

“He’s been very impressive in training, in-house games and I thought he was our best player against Ruthin Colts last weekend.

“After the first couple of sessions everyone was asking to make sure we get him signed and I’m glad we’ve been able to get it done.

“Certainly one to keep an eye on this season.”

Will Clayton (CPD Henllan to Llandyrnog United)

A Henllan player for the past three seasons, where he was a key regular in making 57 appearances.

Now lands at Cae Nant to try his luck with tier 5 Llandyrnog.

Dyrny manager Sion Morris: “He’s had a few clubs after him but I’m glad he’s chosen Dyrny.

“Will can play a couple of different roles in midfield, whether that’s as a 6 or as an 8 and has settled very quickly into both roles in training.

“I can see him being a key player for us this season.”

Ifan Clayton (CPD Henllan to Llandyrnog United)

Younger brother of Will Clayton also relocates his talents to Llandyrnog from Henllan, where he made 71 appearances since the start of 2022-23.

Llandyrnog manager Sion Morris: “Ifan is a player who has always been mentioned to me to monitor. He has trained with us for a couple of weeks and has seriously impressed with his engine and quality in the final third.

“I think this is a real coup for us and shows our intent for this season.”
