NORTH WALES CRICKET LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION REPORTS – SATURDAY, JUNE 21

Latest table after matches played June 21

In a season where the bowlers have been largely on top, the runs finally flowed in the North Wales League Premier Division on Saturday, with some big totals doing the rounds.

Menai Bridge (18) 298-8 Bangor (8) 214-10

Dion Holden produced a magnificent performance with bat and ball against his former club as Menai Bridge comfortably beat neighbours and overnight leaders Bangor at Tyn-y-Caeau.

Holden posted a half-century and took five wickets in a game where Bridge’s strong batting display at home – not for the first time in this or any other season – dominated the day.

The Anglesey hosts won the toss and batted, piling up a formidable 298-8 off 50 overs.

Gethin Roberts, batting at six, was a key performer with 69 not out off just 42 balls, including five fours and four sixes.

Holden struck 67 – seven boundaries and three maximums – while opener Jack Gower made 53, three of his strokes also clearing the rope in a run-a-ball effort.

Prolific run-getters Holden and Gower put on 78 for the second wicket, while Roberts and Patrick Glover (24) combined to add 63 for the eighth.

Smit Parekh claimed 3-40 for the Citizens.

Nathanael Scott made the match-highest score of 81 in Bangor’s reply, but the visitors were dismissed for 214, Jamie Grimshaw 47 not out off 42 deliveries, Nadeem Rehman 34 and skipper Rob Marshall 30.

Holden picked up 5-44 off 10, while Gethin Roberts scooped 2-17.

Menai Bridge pocketed the points 18-8 in an 84-run victory.

St Asaph (18) 262-2 Bethesda (6) 256-5

Kyle Williams and Duncan Midgley produced an opening stand of 183 as Saints chased down 256 to claim an eight-wicket triumph which put them back on top of the Premier.

Calling the coin correctly and electing to bat, improving Bethesda made a very good total of 256-5 off 50, Nicholas Parry (69) and Ioan Meilir Roberts (67 not out) concocting a 137-partnership for the fourth wicket.

Daniel Oshyer added an unbeaten 30 for the visitors, while Jack Griffiths nabbed an impressive 3-23 from eight for Saints.

In response, two-time champions Asaph reached 262-2 in 41.4, wicket-keeper Williams hitting 108 not out – his maiden century for the club.

Midgley cracked 96 in 78 balls, recording 12 fours and four sixes, while Dan Evans finished 30 not out, Carwyn L Williams 2-54 for Pesda.

Brymbo (18) 231-6 Mochdre (7) 218-10

Chris Taylor hit a ton for Brymbo

Two Premier heavyweights clashed at the SSC and Brymbo came out on top by a 17-run margin.

Put into bat after losing the toss, the Steelmen amassed 231-6 off 48, the innings cut by two overs due to rain.

Christopher Taylor passed the 500 league runs mark for the season with a pivotal 102.

Fellow Springbok Jason Underwood added 30, the pair forming a third-wicket stand of 71.

Openers Taylor and Sam Aplin (27) started things off nicely by putting on 88.

Matty Humphreys bagged 3-37 and Marcus Mangiameli 2-36 for the champions.

To win the game, Mochdre needed 236 off 48, but could only manage 218 all out, Will Evans leading the charge with 81off 68 balls, Mangiameli 45 not out and Humphreys 33.

For the hosts, the seventh and eighth members of their attack, Mohamed Nilam Jayman and Richard Deniz, took 3-26 and 3-39 respectively.

Denbigh (18) 308-6 Conwy (8) 231-10

Gerallt Lyall made 87 for Denbigh

A first-wicket partnership of 177 between Gerallt Lyall and Chris Stead helped Denbigh set the Premier’s biggest total of the day at Ystrad Road.

Lyall posted 87 and Stead 85 as the home side chalked up a mammoth 308-6 after opting to bat.

Skipper Harrison Jones added 64 off just 48 deliveries, Patrick Jelley notching 3-59 for the away side.

Overseas opener Oliver Da Costa made 86 and Shaun Davies 63, the duo putting on 95 for the third wicket, as Conwy were bowled out for a spirited 231.

Ifan Jones poached 4-33, Joe Lewis 3-51 and Stuart Griffiths 2-18 for the triumphant hosts.

Gwersyllt Park (18) 195-10 Northop (5) 115-10

The only two teams to score below 200 in the Premier on Saturday met at Gwersyllt Park.

The home side won the toss and decided to bat, making 195 all out off 41.4 overs, Ryan Collier (50) and Kastun Stoute (36) compiling an opening stand of 84.

Ethan McCarthy added a useful 32, while top visiting performer with the ball was Romano Franco with 5-28.

Northop, in good form of late, uncharacteristically slumped to 115 all out, Iroshan De Silva 3-32, Cai Pearson 2-14 and Jack Billington 2-25 for the hosts in an 80-run triumph.
