Happy birthday Rhys Edwards – a pacy dazzler with an eye for goal

With his long blonde locks and ability to make life a nightmare for defenders, Rhys Edwards cuts an impressive figure on the football field.

Today is a special day for the talented front man – his 22nd birthday.

Born on June 10, 2003, Rhys Llewelyn Edwards was most recently part of Mold Alexandra’s impressive 2024-25 Cymru North campaign.

Rhys began his senior career at The New Saints Academy and made his first team debut for the Cymru Premier giants in a Nathaniel MG Cup tie at Penrhyncoch at the start of 2021-22.

He went on to score 14 goals for the TNS development and reserve sides that season, earning himself a Cymru Premier League debut for Anthony Limbrick’s men as a substitute in a 3-0 win at Caernarfon Town in April 2022.

After another fine start to 2022-23 for Saints’ reserves and development teams, Rhys joined then Cymru North side Chirk AAA in August 2022, scoring the winner in a 2-1 victory over Porthmadog in his third appearance.

The youngster went on to add another 12 first-team goals to his CV before the end of that season, which saw Chirk survive in Tier 2.

He scored 17 club goals for the AAA’s in all and played as big a role as anyone in the team remaining in the Cymru North.

The beginning of 2023-24 saw Rhys join Holywell Town, but after just four outings for the Wellmen, he was back at Chirk.

Unfortunately, the Colliers could not avoid relegation this time and Rhys left the club having scored four times in 23 league games that season.

Rhys joined Buckley Town in summer 2023 and netted on debut in a 5-1 Nathaniel MG Cup success against Prestatyn Town.

In 21 outings for Asa Hamilton’s side he made the scoresheet four times before switching to Flintshire neighbours Mold Alexandra in January 2025.

He notched his first goal for the Alex in a 3-0 NEWFA Challenge Cup triumph at Flint Town United in March and finished the campaign at Alyn Park with 13 appearances under his belt.

Rhys’ impressive career to date includes stats of 75 Cymru North appearances and 16 goals – proof of how highly he is regarded in North Wales football.
