Two Cymru North transfers – Cai Powell-Roberts and Rhys Edwards

CAI POWELL-ROBERTS (Caernarfon Town to Bangor 1876)

Cai (14) with Ynys Mon team-mates Gari Owen and Dafydd Jones at the 2019 Inter-Games

An exciting move for a 24 year-old who primarily plays on the right of the defence but has also featured in midfield.

Prior to joining Caernarfon last season, Cai played for Llangefni Town and scored against 1876 in a 7-2 defeat for the Anglesey side at Cae Bob Parry in December of last year.

He also had a spell with Holyhead Hotspur from 2020 to 2022.

Cai has also featured in the last two Ynys Môn squads that have done so well in the Island Games, finishing runners-up this summer and winning the Inter-Games tournament on home soil in 2019.

Bangor 1876 manager Michael Johnston said: “Cai is an excellent player who really impressed me when we played Llangefni last year. He has lots of quality on the ball and is solid defensively.

“He will be a great addition and will give everything for the club. He is familiar with a lot of our players as he represented Ynys Môn in the Island Games. I’m really looking forward to working with him.”

RHYS EDWARDS (Holywell Town to Chirk AAA)

Rhys (red) in action for Chirk

A quick return to Chirk for the young striker after a brief spell with Holywell Town at the start of this season.

This 19-year-old was a superb acquisition for Chirk last season after joining on loan from The New Saints.

He scored 17 club goals for the AAA’s and played as big a role as anyone in the Colliers remaining in the Cymru North.

The fact that last season’s Cymru North runners-up Holywell signed the player proved just how high a regard Rhys is held in.

He made three substitute appearances for the Wellmen, the last of them in last weekend’s 5-1 win at Denbigh Town.

Chirk are delighted to have this quick and talented front man with the distinctive hairstyle back on board.

Rhys goes straight into Monday’s squad for the Cymru North game against Denbigh Town at Holyhead Road.
