New women’s football team starts up in Buckley

A new name will emerge on the senior women’s football scene in 2025-26 – Buckley Town.

The aim for the Flintshire team is to enter Tier 3 and target Tier 2 status in the not too distant fixture.

Buckley Town Ladies FC will be run by experienced management trio, head coach Ffion Cooper, with Dave Cooper and Darren Gilmour as assistant-coaches.

There are plans to bring another coach on board as well.

The Buckley management team were in charge of Northop Hall Ladies last season, but recently left the club.

“We’re aiming to join a competitive league, starting at tier 3 and hopefully with the structure and facilities of the club aiming to achieve tier 2 in the future,” said Ffion.

“We’re starting from brand new, so currently in the process of building a new squad. We are holding our first open training session this Thursday.

“I think it’s a really exciting opportunity for everyone involved.”

Buckley Town Ladies will play home matches at The Globe and will participate in whatever women’s league caters for North East Wales this season.

There has been talk of the North Wales Coast FA forming its own women’s league and a new-look North East Wales league materialising.

Buckley Town Ladies will hold an open training session on Thursday, June 5, from 7 pm at The Globe
