Manchester United’s North Walian ace Mared Griffiths has been named in a 26-player squad for Cymru’s final two games of the UEFA Women’s Nations League campaign.

The 18-year-old from Trawsfynydd has earned selection from Rhian Wilkinson after impressing with the WU19s in their Round 2 League A EURO qualifiers in South Wales in April, where the team finished second in their group.

A student at Coleg Meirion Dwyfor’s Dolgellau campus, Griffiths is a Wales Under-17 and Under-19 cap who in March 2024 was called up to the full national team for the first time for UEFA Euro 2025 qualifying games against Croatia and Kosovo.

She was recalled to the senior team for qualifying matches in June and later qualifying play-offs against Slovakia and the Republic of Ireland, the latter resulting in Wales reaching Euro 2025 – their first-ever major tournament.

In total, Griffiths was named as a substitute four times during the qualification campaign but did not make her debut.

However, earning a Women’s Nations League recall for Wales is sure to boost her hopes of Euro 2025 selection this summer.

In February of this year, Griffiths scored twice on her debut for Manchester United in an FA Cup tie.

She bagged a late double as then holders United whipped Wolverhampton Wanderers 6-0 at the New Bucks Head Stadium in Shropshire.

Griffiths came on in the 81st minute for Melvine Malard to make her full first team debut.

In the latest full Wales squad, Griffiths joins fellow North Walians Mayzee Davies and Elise Hughes.
