NORTH EAST WALES WOMEN’S FOOTBALL LEAGUE PLAY-OFF FINAL 2024-25

Berriew 2 (Lane 15, S Jones pen 54)
CPD Pwllheli 5 (H Rees-Jones 23 & 113, J Owen Hughes 38 & 117, L Thomas 97)

Last season it was a double – today they made it a treble.

Llongyfarchiadau CPD Pwllheli – Betty Pickering Cup winners, North East Wales League West Division table-toppers and overall North East Wales League champions 2024-25.

This afternoon’s battle between the East and West Division title winners to determine the overall North East Wales League champions went to extra time, as was the case last year when Pwll overcame Flint Town United.

Pwllheli and Berriew were locked at 2-2 after 90 minutes, but the Llŷn side showed superior staying power in the added half-hour.

The Powys side struck first in the 15th minute when Bethany Lane found the net, Katie Price with the assist.

Pwll levelled on 23 minutes when Jini Owen Hughes’ corner was headed home by Hayley Rees-Jones.

And it was 2-1 to the West champions after 38, Jini Owen Hughes with a screamer, curling home from 18 yards after Lowri Hughes broke from the back and fed wide to Lois Thomas, who passed to the scorer.

Berriew were back on terms in the 54th minute when Samantha Jones netted from the spot.

Both teams pushed for the winner in the searing heat, but neither could oblige so extra time was required.

This is where Pwllheli came into their own.

The Llŷn team took the lead in the 97th minute through Lois Thomas – her 24th goal of the season – via a Jini Owen Hughes corner.

And the second period saw Pwll score twice more, Hayley Rees-Jones with a header and Jini Owen Hughes chipping the keeper smartly after Sian Moore played her through.

Pwllheli have proved once more they are the Queens of Tier 3!
