Bethesda Athletic are champions – and they’ve had more good news today!

Let the celebrations commence for Bethesda Athletic – Premier Division champions 2024-25

NORTH WALES COAST WEST PREMIER DIVISION

Bethesda Athletic 7 (S Davies 8, Todd 20 & 45+1, O Hughes 23 pen & 77, Hartleb 64 C Lundstram 90)
Gwalchmai 1 (M Evans 38)

Bethesda Athletic are the champions – and they are going up!

On the day Pesda clinched a second North Wales Coast West Premier Division title in three years, they were told their application for a Tier 3 licence next season had been successful.

So, the Ogwen Valley club will return to Ardal North West in 2025-26 aiming to improve considerably on their relegation campaign of 2023-24 at that level.

Athletic knew a win over Gwalchmai tonight would ensure they were crowned champions. The Anglesey visitors were the only team which could overhaul Mark N Hughes’ men, but their dream ended at Parc Meurig.

Bethesda banked another league title and did it in true champions’ style with a thumping 7-1 victory.

Both sides have had to cope with a serious fixtures backlog in recent weeks, while Pesda were aiming to avoid a third defeat against Gwalch this term – they achieved that with great distinction.

After winning their first 10 league matches of the season, the Howgets stretched their run to 14 undefeated before losing 4-3 at Llannerchymedd in February – their first Premier game after a six-week gap.

Pesda went another six without a loss before slipping up 2-1 at home to Llanberis, but after that their only other league reverse came at Gwalchmai on May 6.

While they picked up 38 points out of a possible 45 in their first 15 league fixtures, they scooped only a slightly less impressive 32 in their next 14, but still had enough in the locker to win the title quite comfortably.

Despite the blow of losing then top-scorer Noa Hughes to a bad injury in January. Bethesda kept on banging in the goals, being the only team in the division to pass the 100-mark.

Leading the way was Noa’s elder brother and captain Osian Hughes, who hit 22 in the league and has 30 in all competitions.

Wednesday’s huge clash at Parc Meurig saw Bethesda roar into a 3-0 lead inside 23 minutes, Steffan Davies, Joe Todd and Osian Hughes on the mark.

Gwalch gave themselves a bit of hope when Marc Evans pocketed his 19th goal of the campaign after 37, but Todd struck again for the hosts in first half added time.

There was no let up in the second half, Kyle Hartleb making it 5-1 before skipper Hughes completed another double.

And the champions finished on a real high when Corey Lundstram bagged number seven in the 90th minute.

Recorded assists came via: Todd 2, Lundstram and Osian Hughes.

With manager Hughes unavailable this evening due to work commitments, assistant Geraint Jones led the side and the players let neither boss down!

Llongyfarchiadau Bethesda Athletic! Pesda Roc’s again!
