North East Wales League: Mynydd Isa and Acton celebrate cup success

NEWFL Premier Division Cup Final

Mynydd Isa 3 Rhostyllen 1

Mynydd Isa could make it a double-double this weekend.

The first team have done their part – adding the Premier Cup to the Premier Division title they won two weeks earlier at the weekend.

Now Isa’s second string, already Reserve Division Group A champions, can also complete a pair if they beat Corwen Reserves in this Saturday’s Reserve Cup Final.

Liam Evans’ first team came from behind on Saturday to lift the Premier Cup with a 3-1 success over Rhostyllen.

Simon Sedgwick’s side led at the break courtesy of a Tom Douglas goal on the stroke of half time – his 24th of the season.

However, Isa roared back after the interval, Braden Lavin making it 1-1 on 51 minutes before James Beck quickly added another after 54.

Victory was sealed when Nathan Mendoza notched his 23rd goal of the campaign with 79 played.

NEWFL Two Counties Cup Final

Acton 2 CPD Sychdyn United 0

Acton retained the Two Counties Cup with a 2-0 victory over a strong Sychdyn outfit at the Hollingsworth Group Stadium in Broughton on Saturday.

Sam Giles and Liam Davies scored the goals for the winning side, for whom Sean Price was man of the match.

Sychdyn finished with nine men after Ross Walker was shown a second yellow on 70 minutes and Joe Mitchell saw red after 88.

Acton manager Matthew Roden was red-carded in the 89th minute.

Sychdyn were runners-up in the Championship Division this season, while Acton finished fourth.

Reserves Division Group A

Corwen Reserves 3 CPD Rhos Aelwyd Reserves 4

Sub Jayden Sheil notched an 83rd minute winner for league runners-up Rhos.

Ryan Jenkins, Jake Jones and Lee Hanmer were the other away marksmen, Ben Davies, Alfie Lowe and Lewis Willis replying for Corwen.

Reserve Division Group B

Coedpoeth United Development 2 Penyffordd Lions Reserves 4

Paul Jones was a hat-trick hero for Penyffordd, one of his goals coming from the penaltty spot.

Owen Davies was also on the mark for the Lions, Aaron Camplin among the Coedy hitmen.

Lex Reserves 2 Greenfield Reserves 1

Sub George Baxter bagged a 93rd minute winner for Lex in a game which featured four red cards.

Cameron Thomas handed the Law a 27th minute lead before Ethan Evans equalised on 42.

Alex Palmer missed a penalty for Lex on 72 before Baxter delivered the late decider.

In the 94th minute, the four reds were shown – to Ben Pritchard and manager Chris Hewitt of Lex and Greenfield’s Daniel Hughes and Ethan Evans.

Reserve Division Group B third round

Johnstown YFC Reserves 2 Connah’s Quay Town XI 7

Jon Tear-Edmonds made it 27 goals this season for Town with four in his team’s resounding victory at Johnstown.

Jake Williams, Jack Collins and Scott Gibbons were also on target for the visitors and leaders, who passed 100 league goals for the season in this match.

Robert Cooper and Dewi Reeves responded for the hosts.

FC Queen’s Park Reserves 3 Brymbo Reserves 3

The Park recovered from 3-1 down to force a draw.

Gruffydd Rawlinson, Kai Wright and sub Adam Roberts made up the home tally, Evan Davies (2) and Tom Potts putting bottom side Brymbo in a good position at one stage.
